Crytek and EA confirm Crysis Warhead

Many have wondered if there was a Crysis expansion pack in the works after Crytek trademarked ‘Crysis Warhead’ back in March (alongside ‘Crysis Wars’ and ‘World in Crysis’), but it wasn’t until today that the company officially spilled the beans revealing that Crysis Warhead is a standalone title rather than a traditional expansion pack.

The game takes place parallel to the events of the first Crysis, but focuses on the other side of the island and seen through the eyes of another character. It will feature new weapons and vehicles over the original Crysis and will supposedly introduce multiplayer content as well – though no details have been revealed about the online features.

The game is due out “exclusively for the PC this fall,” according to the press release, though Crytek CEO Cevat Yerli’s comments last month that it will not produce another PC-exclusive title because of the high levels of piracy it experienced with Crysis, might be an indication that a console version of Crysis Warhead could be in the works. This is pure speculation for now, but the company indeed has been working on a port of CryENGINE 2 for consoles.

Of course, EA is getting a new version of this game out. Who wouldn’t they be without trying to kill of a video game with five thousand sequels?
