Skype prepares to release major update

One of the most popular VoIP service and clients around, Skype, is about to get a major upgrade. A test version of the software has been made available to demonstrate what they are trying to accomplish with Skype 4.0, which is being cited as the biggest update since the software was first released.

Among other things, this release is intended to bring a lot of new communication methods such as video calling, better instant messaging, photo and file transferring and more. Essentially they are looking to convert it from just a “VoIP” service to an all-encompassing communication service, offering what is currently split into a horde of different applications. The growth of video phoning had led eBay and Skype to believe that massive improvements are warranted, and perhaps they are right. I don't use Skype that often, but once this update becomes mainstream I might just be enticed.

I been using skype for a short time. I have went through about a dozen IM clients to try and replace aim. None have persuaded me to... Skype ALMOST did. lol I'm hoping that skype will allow image uploading to chat windows and faster file transfer speeds in the new version.
