American Airlines' in-flight Wi-Fi is (almost) here

American Airlines will finally begin testing its in-flight Wi-Fi system tomorrow on a round-trip between JFK and LAX. The service will be provided by Aircell, which is also working with Virgin American and JetBlue Airways to offer free in-flight web browsing, e-mail, and instant-messaging.

American has a fleet of fifteen 767-200 airplanes that have the Wi-Fi systems installed and ready to go, so assuming tomorrow’s test is a success the service should be rolled out to other flights in the coming weeks. The service, which is being called GoGo, will be completely free of charge for tomorrow's trial but once officially rolled out, it’ll cost $12.95 for flights over three hours and $9.95 for shorter flights.
