The tremendous success of peripheral-driven games like Rock Band and Wii Fit has apparently inspired Electronic Arts to release some sports titles that include special controllers. This according to EA vice president David McCarthy, who said sports games that use a peripheral strategy to some extent will be released within the next 12 months.

Though McCarthy would not directly specify what sort of peripherals EA Sports may be planning, he added that extras would only be bundled if it really does enrich the experience of gameplay and doesn't create a barrier to entry for consumers. Hopefully they'll stay true to that statement so we don't end up flooded with just a bunch of overpriced titles bundled with one of those silly plastic shells that are available for the Wiimote.
