Google unveils feature to monitor Gmail activity

When you’re checking your email account on multiple devices daily there’s always a greater chance for some type of security compromise. Well, Gmail users now have some extra ways to keep prying eyes away from their inboxes, thanks to a new feature that will let users see how many computers their account is open on and allow them to sign-out remotely.

The feature takes the form of a message at the bottom of the Gmail interface that indicates other locations where the account is active. You can then click through to find out the other IP addresses where you are (or were recently) logged in, and whether those locations are web-based, on mobile devices, or elsewhere.

The rather simple yet useful new feature is currently rolling out to Gmail members using the Firefox and Internet Explorer 7 browsers. You can read more details at the Gmail Blog.
