Dell adds multi-touch to Latitude XT Tablet PC

Microsoft touted multi-touch integration when it gave the world a first look at Windows 7 earlier this year, but Dell isn't going to wait around for them to release their next-generation OS sometime in 2010 to start supporting the feature. In fact, their Latitude XT already has the necessary hardware to support a multi-touch experience, but starting today, Dell will offer a firmware update that will finally enable it.

The update will be offered globally via support.dell.com and will bring with it iPhone-like gesture controls – for zooming and scrolling – to a number of applications including Google Earth, Microsoft Office, Firefox, Internet Explorer 7, XP’s Windows Picture viewer, and Vista’s Windows Photo Gallery. Check out the video after the jump to see the XT in action.

  1. I'm dead into all this stuff - I have bought a tablet recently and am trying to move to it from the laptop. Moving from a keyboard and a mouse to a touchscreen and a pen is easier than you think....well, for most tasks anyway. I really like Microsoft Surface as well - I think its definately going to be big in the future.
