Despite rumors of a buyout, it is business as usual for SanDisk which today expanded its Extreme III lineup with a new 32GB CompactFlash card. This represents a 100 percent increase over the previous highest capacity CF card SanDisk offered, and it maintains the same 30 MB/s transfer rate that’s made the Extreme III series popular with the high-resolution crowd.

While 32GB may seem like too much free space to carry in your pocket, photo enthusiasts will certainly appreciate the extra room. The speed and capacity will come at a premium, though. The new 32GB Extreme III CompactFlash card will retail for $299.99 when available in October – by comparison, the highest capacity SDHC card of the same read/write speed from SanDisk is 16GB for $180.
