Transcend announced the introduction of new SSD offerings today, offering up several new drives. The SSD offerings will come in both IDE and SATA configurations, and with a 2.5" form factor will be aimed primarily at laptops. They aren't matching other vendors in size, with the highest capacity model being 64GB in size. They boast high but pretty typical read/write speeds for SSDs at 159MB/136MB per second, respectively, and all the other goodies that come with an SSD drive.

They mention little in the way of specifics, such as what the opening price point will be or whether they are making use of SLC or MLC flash. They do expect to have higher capacity SSDs available in the near future, and this current Transcend offering is available immediately. You can read more after the jump.

Press Release: Fast and Reliable - Transcend's Solid State Disks Kick into High Gear

Taipei, September 25, 2008

With the ever-increasing popularity of compact notebooks and high-end portable devices, the demand for solid-state disks (SSD) is greater than ever. Transcend is poised at the forefront of this new solid-state revolution, offering a new all-new high-speed range of SSD products this September with a fresh new look and double the read/write speeds of previous models.

Transcend's new notebook form-factor 2.5" SATA-II and IDE interface SSDs are both equipped with a tough but lightweight case, generous capacity (up to 64GB), high reliability, very low power consumption and incredible resistance to shock and vibration.

These features make them ideal drop-in replacements for conventional hard disk drives in both industrial and portable devices like ultra compact notebooks that require long battery life and must be durable enough to withstand a few bumps and scratches. Due to their industry-standard 2.5" form factor and availability in both IDE and SATA interface versions, Transcend's SSDs allow easy and straightforward user installation in most notebook computers and mainstream PCs just like regular hard drives. Featuring a powerful new controller, Transcend's SSDs far outpace standard 2.5" hard drives, delivering exceptional sustained read/write speeds of up to 159MB / 136MB per second to guarantee fast throughput regardless of file size. Combine that with extremely low, under 1ms latency and it becomes clear why Transcend SSDs give users an overall more enjoyable, lag-free computing experience.

In addition, Transcend's SSDs have built-in ECC (Error Correction Code) that ensures highly reliable data transfer and increases overall system integrity. Advanced wear-leveling technology also guarantees ultra-long lifespan and data-retention durability for long-term use. Moreover, to meet the future needs of the burgeoning market for high speed, lightweight low-power solid state disks, Transcend is also preparing to release even faster and larger capacity SSDs in the near future.
