RIAA accepts $200 per song judgement

By Justin Mann on
Shortly after petitioning for an appeal in a big case last week, the RIAA has decided that a jury trial is not in their bests interests. A Judge sitting on the case decided that more down to earth rewards are in order if the RIAA happens to win, this time a flat fee of $200 per song.

This vastly reduced fee was initially going to be challenged by the RIAA, who wanted a jury trial. Now they have changed their mind on that course of action, apparently accepting the Judge's decisions. Why the change of heart? It may have a lot to do with the $220,000 judgment essentially being tossed out. The RIAA isn't commenting, but with the increasing number of cases seeing public light it is becoming obvious to more people that they are simply trying to scare people with astronomically high dollar figures.
