LucasArts, BioWare confirm Star Wars MMO

BioWare and LucasArts have officially announced Star Wars: The Old Republic, the much rumored massively multiplayer online role-playing game set in the Star Wars universe. This is actually the second MMO based on the saga, following Star Wars Galaxies, which was released in 2003 but fared poorly due to its overwhelming complexity, bugginess and lack of quest content.

The companies are keeping most of the details secret, but they did say that while the emphasis is on story their goal is to create something that even non-Star Wars fans can pick up and play. The game is currently scheduled for a PC release only, but a date has yet to be determined. For more details, including artwork and screen shots, head over to GameSpot.

You might want to change the text of this intro before 40,000 SWG vets jump on you for saying the game failed due to complexity when in fact it was the dumbing down of the game that killed it.
