Blizzard celebrates 11 million World of Warcraft players

Ubuntu may look impressive today with over 8 million users, but even that massive figure is dwarfed by the number of World of Warcraft players in the world. Blizzard has recently reached another milestone for the MMO that has spread like wildfire, with over 11 million subscribers worldwide today. That number has been achieved even before Blizzard has released the latest expansion pack for the game, which is set for release in the middle of November.

Turning four years old next month, the game has certainly proven itself to be a massive success by Blizzard year after year. I certainly hope all the success doesn't draw attention away from Starcraft 2 or Diablo III development.

$15/month subscription = $165million a month just in duesand 11 million copies of Wrath of the Lich King at $50 a piece = $550 million, mostly to be realized in November with the release.
