Blizzard is tooting its own horn today announcing that the second World of Warcraft expansion, Wrath of the Lich King, has racked up 2.8 million sales worldwide in its first 24 hours of release. This makes it the fastest-selling PC game of all times, according to the company, beating a previous record of nearly 2.4 million copies sold in 24 hours set by the first World of Warcraft expansion, The Burning Crusade.

Wrath of the Lich King was simultaneously released earlier this month in a number of countries around the globe and more than 15,000 stores held midnight launch events. According to Blizzard, the four year old MMORPG now counts 11 million subscribers and that number only looks set to continue rising.

How people can waste SOOO much time is crazy. Thats one reason I won't even play these types of games. I like to pick up a game and play for awhile but still have a real life and not have to feel I will lose out of I don't get back to the game. I like to have control of the game...not the other way around.
