Following yesterday's announcement that Microsoft's plans to cut its workforce by up to 5,000 jobs, it looks as though one of the teams worst affected could be Flight Simulator studio ACES. According to Gamasutra, a majority of staff (if not all) has been laid off, which not only raises questions as to what will happen with the popular 26 year old franchise but also leaves the future of Microsoft's upcoming Train Simulator up in the air.

Flight Simulator is one of the oldest franchises in PC gaming, going back to 1982, and has so far continued up to the current Flight Simulator X title which was released in 2006 and is regularly supported by third party expansion packs - it would be a shame to see it discontinued.
