Back in October when Nintendo first announced the latest revision of its incredibly popular DS portable, the DSi, the company remained coy about its release in the US market – saying only that it would be available “well into 2009.” Thankfully though, they are now being a bit more specific with an announcement that the redesigned handheld will arrive in the United States on April 5 with a price tag of $170.

Released in Japan last November, the Nintendo DSi packs a slimmer profile than its predecessor due to the removal of the Game Boy Advance cartridge slot and features two built-in cameras. Other changes and additions include more spacious 3.25-inch displays, improved speakers, an SD card slot, and support for the new DSi Shop, which will allow users to download games and demos using DSi Points to the portable system.
