AMD to cut Radeon HD 4800 prices
As Nvidia prepares to announce the ‘all new’ GT250 cards – which apparently are nothing more than a rebrand of the old G92 series – AMD is gearing up for the fight by working with its board partners to lower prices on some key products. According to DailyTech, the HD 4870 is about to get a $50 price cut to $149 while the HD 4850 will drop to $129.
The price cuts are supposedly taking place this week, just in time for Nvidia’s announcement at CeBIT, and will put the 4870 in a similar price point as the GTS 250. However, those seeking better performance for the buck may turn towards AMD’s alternative, as the card has shown it even outperforms Nvidia’s GTX 260 series. Other price cuts are expected later down the road although AMD did not offer further details.
