OCZ unveils Mini PCI-Express SSDs

By on
OCZ has added another option to their growing list of flash-based storage products. This time they are targeting notebook and netbook users who want to expand storage capacity without adding a battery-consuming hard drive, with a small form-factor SSD that plugs into a computerís mini PCI Express slot. The new drive is available in both PATA and SATA interfaces and comes in 16GB and 32GB sizes.

Naturally, the SATA version will deliver faster read and write speeds at 110MB/s and 51MB/s respectively, while the alternative PATA version, with the same capacity options, offers a maximum 45MB/s read and 35MB/s write speed. OCZ is not touting these for any particular system, though they should fit in quite well with their DIY Neutrino netbook. No pricing was announced but OCZ did say it is backing the drives with a two year warranty.
