DeCSS Author Jon Johansen Acquitted

By Derek Sooman

On January 7, 2003, 7:46 AM

In a follow up to my earlier story posted here, Jon Johansen, author of the DeCSS software (which can be used to remove the encryption from DVDs) has now been acquitted on all charges by the Norwegian Supreme Court.

Its a complete victory for Johansen on all counts, with "the Oslo court ruling that Johansen did nothing wrong when he helped cracked the code on a DVD that was his own personal property."

Round two for the goodies, I'd say!

More here and here and a background here.
