Boxee Box to receive Vudu, Netflix support this month

After a delayed arrival, the Boxee Box finally began shipping in early November -- albeit without support for today's go-to premium video streaming service, Netflix. While that's a pretty significant shortcoming, Boxee pledged to set things straight by adding Netflix and Vudu by the end of 2010. Unfortunately, the company was unable to meet that deadline.

In a blog post on Friday, Boxee explained that although it has both services working on the Boxee Box internally, it needs more time to test the applications before rolling them out to the masses. The company expects Vudu to be up and running by the end of next week, but Netflix won't be added to the device until the end of January, apparently.

"I know many users will be upset. I am disappointed that we couldn't make it happen in time for the end of the year," Boxee's Avner Ronen said. "Looking back at 2010 it's hard to believe so much has happened in just 12 months." Ronen noted that Boxee would be at CES next week, but he didn't say if any new products or services would be shown.
