Beware of Duron PR Ratings fiasco

By

On March 31, 2003, 3:12 PM

According to this article at the Inq, certain online merchants are adding PR ratings to AMD Duron processors trying to make those look speedier than they really are.

"we've seen a Duron 1100MHz chip described as a Duron 1400+ for example"

We know, of course, such ratings do not exist but then again be aware and do not trust any reseller carrying that kind of misleading information.

 1. Hmm.I've installed a PC for a friend te other day, it was an ECS K7SEM with a Duron CPU allready installed on it.Here's the page -> http://www.ecsusa.com/products/k7sem_v3.htmlAt bootup, it says Duron 1300+. I didn't inspect the speed at which the CPU really runs but now I doubt it's 1300mhz.
 2. Someone should sue these companies for false advertising and creating misleading information that they know isn't true. Shows you how smart some of these techies are working at these places. I would have a cow if someone tried to rate a duron at 1300+. I would definately not go for that idea and would be reporting the companie that I worked for to the Better Business Bureau and other authorities for false advertising.
