Intel makes gains in handheld market

While Motorola processors still keep the #1 spot in the handheld market by a considerable margin, Intel has been doing the right moves going from no presence at all, to nearly 35 percent in just over two years.

The first opportunity for Intel came with the release of Pocket PC handhelds two years ago, most of those PDAs used Intel's 200MHz StrongARM processors that delivered considerably better performance than Motorola's Dragonball CPUs used on Palm devices at the time.

Things look even better for Intel this year with design wins from the two biggest PDA makers Palm and Sony, HP with their prestigious iPAQ and the market's newcomer, Dell.
