When Nokia sold its handset division to Microsoft, many believed the company's hardware ambitions went with it. That doesn't appear to be the case as the (former) Finnish handset maker is teasing a new hardware device that'll be unveiled on November 18.

Nokia on Monday tweeted an image of what appears to be a black box with tomorrow's date and the tag line "we're up to something." Your guess is as good as mine as to what we shall see on the 18th but here are a few possibilities.

Based on first looks of the image, it appears to be some sort of set-top box (think Apple TV, Roku, etc.). By taking the image into Photoshop and adjusting the levels, one can clearly see that the front side of the "box" appears to have been intentionally blacked out (as in, to cover something up).

That "something" is probably I/O ports which leads me to believe it is indeed a set-top box (Nokia TV sounds like a good name, no?). It wouldn't be out of the realm of possibility for such a device to run Android TV, but I digress.

Then again, I could be completely wrong and the box shown in Nokia's teaser is just that - a box with something inside. Above all else, I'm pretty certain it isn't a smartphone as that ship has already sailed.

What do you think Nokia will reveal tomorrow, a set-top box or something else completely?
