Linux Torvalds leaves Transmeta to work full time in Linux. The creator of the freely available Linux operating system will join the Open Source Development Lab, a consortium designed to bring high-end features to the software.

Compaq brand name is being pushed aside in the business sector, a year after completing its acquisition of Compaq Computer, HP is downplaying the Compaq name in its business products, arguing it is easier to sell one brand to corporate customers.

Red Hat reported on Tuesday first-quarter results that met analysts' expectations, due in part to strong growth in subscriptions for its enterprise technologies. Revenue reached $27.2 million in the quarter ended May 31, up 39 percent from year-ago figures.
