Facebook has launched a new Scrapbook feature that allows parents to better organize photos of their children. Or in other words, get ready to see a flood of baby photos take over your News Feed in the coming days and weeks.
Facebook Product Manager Dan Barak, a self-professed photography lover, said he noticed that the more pictures he shared of his son on the social network, the more scattered they became across different photo albums.
Some parents have created Facebook profiles for infants despite the fact that it's against Facebook's policy. Because the site doesn't allow people under the age of 13 to have a profile, Barak needed a better way to organize such photos.
His team ran a small survey among parents that post pictures of their kids online. They learned that 65 percent of parents tag their partner in photos of their kids so they can also be seen by their friends. These same parents told Facebook that they'd like a way to collect photos of their kids without having to step outside the bounds of the company's terms of service. As such, Scrapbook was born.
The feature allows parents to organize photos of their kids using a special tag that pulls everything into a customizable Scrapbook. Parents that create Scrapbooks can co-own them with their partner and choose what to call the tag (the kid's name, initials or perhaps a nickname). Only owners of the Scrapbook can tag your child in photos.
