Microsoft's Surface 3 is now available for purchase in the US and nine other markets. If $499 seems a bit steep for the new slate, the Redmond-based company will deduct up to $150 off the purchase price so long as you have an older Microsoft tablet to offer on trade.

Those living in select regions can trade in a working Surface RT - regardless of storage capacity - for $100 off a Surface 3. And if you have a Surface 2 of any capacity, Microsoft will slash $150 off the price of its Surface 3 if you're willing to part with it.

Microsoft unveiled the Surface 3 tablet a little over a month ago as a cheaper - albeit less powerful - alternative to its Surface Pro 3. The Surface 3 features a 10.8-inch, 1080p display and is powered by a quad-core Intel Atom processor alongside 2GB of RAM and 64GB of internal flash storage (or 4GB RAM / 128GB of storage for an extra $100).

Despite its smaller size and slower hardware, the Surface 3 has been deemed a winner according to multiple reviews.

Each purchase comes with a one-year subscription to Office 365 Personal that includes 1TB of OneDrive space. It's also worth pointing out that if you're a student, the parent of a student or a faculty member, you can save an additional 10 percent when shopping through Microsoft's Education Store.

The trade-in promotion runs through May 31.
