AMD price cuts and speculation

The Inq has posted information about upcoming AMD price cuts for Athlon MP and Opteron models, they also comment on a rumour on the first Athlon 64s using a 940 pin socket (like current Opterons), then switching to 939 and finally the expected Socket 754... this could be a straight indicator of AMD intending to release 1mb L2 cache A64s although it wouldn't make much sense to me, so take this as pure speculation for now.

Launching a new CPU divided for two platforms would only add to confusion, not to mention higher costs of production, in my opinion, either one of the two possibilities are likely to happen, just not both at the same time.
