Capcom on Wednesday released the first trailer for Resident Evil 7 that features actual gameplay footage. If you thought the Beginning Hour trailer was creepy, you haven't seen anything yet.

As the "found footage" clip plays out, we see a female protagonist named Mia attempting to elude a creepy lady carrying a lantern who goes by the name of Marguerite Baker. She eventually gets cornered by the slow-moving stalker, who in a not-so-pleasant voice asks "where do you think you're going?"

In a post on the PlayStation blog, Capcom social media specialist Kellen Haney says that while the girl is the main focus of the footage, you won't be playing her in the main game.

Resident Evil 7 is set in Dulvey, Louisiana, where something isn't quite right. Jack and Marguerite Baker have been missing for quite some time and there's no shortage of rumors regarding what may have happened to them. If you recall, at the end of Beginning Hour, there's a tagline that reads, "Meet the Family." Players also get a glimpse at Jack Baker although how that all ties into this new trailer isn't clear.

Capcom appears to be taking an entirely different direction with this game compared to previous releases. It could be a refreshing approach although diehard fans of the Resident Evil universe are already voicing their displeasure that none of the franchise's previous characters will be featured in this game.

Resident Evil 7 lands on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Windows PC on January 24, 2017.
