Own a smartphone long enough and it's inevitable that gravity is going to get the upper hand sooner or later at which time you'll have some decisions to make based on the amount of damage incurred.

For many, a busted screen is the first step down the path toward purchasing a replacement phone but that doesn't always have to be the case. Assuming the damage is minimal, you may still be able to use it for a while longer.

If you're dealing with a total loss, however, having the display replaced may be a worthwhile alternative so long as it isn't cost prohibitive. Even if you have insurance on your phone through your wireless provider, the deductible may be so high that it makes more sense to cut your losses and move on.

Fortunately, that may no longer be a concern for select AT&T subscribers.

Beginning November 15, customers with eligible insurance plans can have a cracked display replaced for only $89. AT&T says those who exercise this option can get same-day repair appointments so long as a claim is submitted before 2 p.m. local time.

It's worth noting that repairs may use refurbished components and may contain non-original manufacturer parts. Regardless of the components used, all repairs will be backed by a 12-month warranty. Best yet, a screen repair will not count against a customer's Declining Deductible eligibility.

AT&T's screen repair service will initially be limited to just over a dozen cities before expanding to additional markets on December 1. A full list of participating cities and eligible devices can be found by clicking here (PDF).
