Intel still processor king

According to numbers released this week, Intel still dominates the processor market by a very large margin. Not much of a surprise after a slow year for AMD that dedicated a lot of its resources to 64-bit CPUs that are making its debut this year.

[COLOR=royalblue]AMD saw its market share in the second quarter of 2003 inch up to 15.7 percent, a tenth-of-a-point increase from the same period a year ago.
Intel, meanwhile, saw its market share slip to 82.5 percent in the second quarter, from 82.8 percent in the same period the year before. Other manufacturers, a grouping that includes Transmeta, increased their collective market share from 1.7 percent to 1.8 percent. [/COLOR]

It's been a great year for Pentium 4s and mobile Pentiums as well. According to the report, there are high expectations for processor sales during the following quarters.
