Stunning environments packed with crisp detail.
New multiplayer mode is sturdy and engrossing.
Diverse level designs.
Great replay value.
Doesn't stray far from the original's template.
Too similar to Anomaly: Warzone Earth.

While more varied units and polished gameplay are welcome additions to Anomaly 2, the most significant inclusion is a new multiplayer mode. With issues of a lackluster narrative and trial and error single-player levels, the game doesn't quite...80

Like predecessors Anomaly: Warzone Earth and Anomaly Korea, 11 Bit Studios' Anomaly 2 turns classic tower defense upside down. Instead of fortifying a base with turrets, cannons, and soldiers, Anomaly 2 places you in command of the incoming horde....80

That's a minor complaint, really, because it's still a great game. Going back on the offensive for another round of mechanized tower thrashing still offers a fun challenge. The exciting new multiplayer mode adds to the thrills, offering ample reason to keep blasting away after you push through the quick campaign.80

Anomaly 2’s campaign feels a lot like the original, but it still offers up plenty of expertly designed strategy thrills with plenty of replay value. The addition of its innovative competitive asymmetrical multiplayer is the big draw here – as long as everyone takes the time to learn the complex rules, that is.80

It’d be easily recommendable as a single-player game alone, but the enjoyable-if-flawed multiplayer adds another layer to this (if you’re into that sort of thing). It’s not quite Defense Grid in terms of sheer when-did-it-become-4am distraction power, but it’s a highly entertaining twist on both its predecessor and on the tower defence genre in general.80

Anomaly 2 is an immediate and exciting strategy game unlike any other, but over time the repetition and lack of depth leaves something to be desired. It’s a welcome distraction on a phone or tablet, but the limits of the game are quickly noticed when played in long bursts on PC.75

Here Anomaly 2 is trying to reinvent its own wheel with little tiny incremental upgrades instead of taking the same drastic approach that gained it such praise in the first place. The result isn’t something groundbreaking; the result is a confused and missed opportunity that has more in common with RTS games in every wrong way possible.40

Anomaly 2 may have a run-of-the-mill, aliens-have-taken-over-Earth story, but as far as gameplay goes, this tower defense game throws in a multiplayer twist. The humans have a short squad of battle machines along with a squad leader – a commander...-
