Awkward and frustrating controls are normally something we'd bemoan in a game. A game can have the best graphics in the world but poor controls can ruin the experience. What can we make, then, of a game that celebrates awkward controls?Bossa Studios'...

I almost feel like I’m on drugs playing Surgeon Simulator 2013, in so far as I’m trapped inside one of those anti-drug adverts where organs get sneezed out or cooked up. Lungs are flying everywhere, splattering against cupboards, and brains are...

Saving lives is a full time job. But lately I spend more time operating a computer than on patients. My daily routine of organ transplants has itself been transplanted with folders full of paperwork and a colourful stack of floppy disks. I stare at the...

Way cheaper than medical school.Surgery is so easy that it can be done with one hand. Your left hand. Surgeon Simulator 2013 puts you in the scrubs of Nigel the one-handed surgeon whose best customer, Bob, just can't get enough of those organ...

It was only the other week when I was singing praise for the independent developers out there taking on the big guns of the industry and sticking it to the metaphorical man. It's good to see that people are still spending countless hours behind screens...

It's a good laugh for the player - although there's always that weird You've Been Framed dampening effect which comes from something that's been set up to be amusing rather than something that's just naturally, accidentally, organically hilarious - but the real fun is being had by the people ogling over your shoulder.

Even the oddly dance-worthy synth soundtrack has no business working as well as it does. And yet, it all comes together beautifully in one great big symphony of eccentricity. This is a game that makes it an absolute joy to not only fail, but fail spectacularly. And the best part is, you don't even have to worry about malpractice suits.

Surgeon Simulator 2013 is hardly a simulation, but it makes medical malpractice an absolute...

Go into Surgeon Simulator 2013 knowing that it’s more about the slapstick comedy resulting from intentionally bad controls than it is about real medicine and you’ll be in for a treat.

Even with the amount of laughs I had with Surgeon Simulator 2013, I lie in wait for the developers to announce a much-needed extension to the game.

The game’s only £6.99 on Steam (a little bit cheaper if you buy it in the next two hours or so), which probably equates to some number of laughs per pence that makes it worthwhile, unless you’re suffering from some sort of humour recession or rapid, uncontrollable chuckle inflation, in which case I can’t help you.

While it won’t make you a high-fiving surgical machine like The Todd or Turk from Scrubs, Surgeon Simulator 2013 will at least bring you to the levels of the incredibly cheerful, but totally inept Dr Nick Riviera.

The game gives players control of each of your surgeon’s five fingers and challenges them to complete open-heart surgery on a patient. Hilarity ensues.
