The Xperia Z1 Compact is the small version of Sony's flagship Z1. Despite the small size, the Z1 Compact is a truly high-end smartphone running Android 4.3 and according to Sony an update to Android 4.4 is to follow. The Z1 Compact is water and dust resistant, it is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 with 2GB of RAM, 16 GB of storage, expandable via microSD.

Price-wise it shouldn’t really come as a surprise that the Xperia Z1 Compact is priced similarly to its large-screen flagship counterparts. MobiCity, which provided us with the Z1 Compact to review today, sells the Z1 Compact for $570 unlocked and off-contract, which is the same price as the full-size Xperia Z1, so it won’t cost you to opt for the smaller model.

Apple has long argued the merits of its perfect-sized iPhone that you can comfortably hold and use without requiring two hands. If you buy into that, then the Xperia Z1 Compact is easily your best option on the Android platform right now. Sony is the...

It seems the “Mini” devices might always be a generation behind their big brother flagships. Before we get disappointed by the comparison though, it's worth remembering that the screen resolution compromise usually brought about by the smaller screens...

Manufacturers have made their efforts to respond to interest in smaller flagships with releases of “mini” variants of their own, often charging fairly exorbitant coin for mediocre specs. Sony's offering goes beyond the approach of attaching a flagship...

I've written about this before but there's a real dearth of actual Mini smartphones on the market as most manufacturers have opted for profit over substance and produced scaled back versions of flagship. The Mini smartphones we've come to expect have...

With this phone, Sony tries to recreate its brilliant – but admittedly large – Xperia Z1 smartphone in a smaller, but still smart, package. The Z1 Compact certainly has big ambitions: with the intention of going head-to-head with the Apple iPhone 5s ....

Hate phablets? Don’t like Apple’s iOS? Help is at hand at long last. Now you can finally buy a premium phone that doesn’t swamp your hands or dwarf your face when you lift it to take a call. Kudos to Sony for coming up with a phone as petite and...

For some people flagship phones such as the original Sony Xperia Z1 are a little on the large size. A 5″ screen could be a little too much,Whilst we have ‘mini’ versions of some phones, like the S3 Mini, S4 Mini etc; normally picking a mini device...

Albeit without a full HD display, the Z1 Compact squeezes all the high-end technical goodies usually found in monster Android überphones into a stylish, well made and altogether rather neat little handset, both aesthetically and figuratively. Despite...

When thinking of making the switch from an iPhone to Android, finding a device that's a comfortable size can be a daunting task. The iPhone maxes out at a 4.0 inch Retina Display (as found on the iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C ) but Android devices have slowly...

This is, perhaps, the first credible iPhone competitor to emerge on the Android scene in recent memory. Small, waterproof, packing a 20.7 megapixel camera and a beastly Snapdragon 800 chipset, the Sony Xperia Z1 Compact is a different take on what a...

When is a Mini smartphone not such a Mini? Well as I've written about before, it's when the company strips out almost everything that makes the flagship special and often releases the handset with reduced specs. We've seen this with the Galaxy S4 Mini ,...
