Benchmarks: Real-World Applications

Red Orchestra 2 Heroes of Stalingrad is a 17GB game installation that took just 94 seconds when using the Samsung SSD 850 Evo 2TB, which is the same time recorded when using the 500GB, making both faster than the Crucial MX200 and BX100.

Scanning the System32 folder in Windows 8.1 took 41 seconds when using the Samsung SSD 850 Evo 2TB, which was the exact same time as the 500GB model.

Using Acronis True Image 2015 we backed up roughly 45GB worth of mixed data from our test system. The 850 Evo 2TB took 286 seconds to complete the backup process, two seconds faster than the 500GB model and considerably faster than the Crucial MX200.

For this test we created a zip file using a mix of files from our test system which totaled 38GB. The above chart shows how long it took to extract the archive on each SSD. Here we see the 850 Evo 2TB took just 205 seconds, two seconds faster than the 500GB model but 9 seconds slower than the Crucial MX200.

Above we have the 7-Zip file extraction test shown in megabytes per second rather than time. The Samsung SSD 850 Evo 2TB averaged 180MB/s which was just 1MB/s faster than the 500GB model, but 9MB/s slower than the Crucial MX200.
