Testing Thunderbolt-Enabled External Storage: Gigabyte Z77X-UP5TH meets WD Velociraptor Duo
Benchmarks: CrystalDiskMark 3.0
CrystalDiskMark's sequential read and write results are similar to those found when testing with AS SSD Benchmark. To recap, the read performance of the Velociraptor drives is notably stronger when using SATA 6Gb/s while the 520 Series drive is significantly faster.
Again, the random 512K test reveals that both the 520 Series and Velociraptor drives perform better when connected to SATA 6Gb/s.
As we saw before, SATA's NCQ support gives it a significant advantage in this test, as shown by Intel's SSD.
