Application Performance

The Core i7-4960X completed our Excel 2013 workload in an impressive 3.29 seconds, making it 7% faster than the i7-3960X. A reasonable improvement, though it is less than the 9% increase in clock speed.

When comparing single-thread performance the Core i7-4960X was 6% faster than the i7-3960X and 29% faster than the i7-4770K thanks to all that extra L3 cache. When comparing multithreading performance the i7-4960X was just 4% faster than the i7-3960X but 38% faster than the i7-4770K.

Unfortunately we saw almost no improvement over the Core i7-3960X when testing with Photoshop CS6 despite the increase in clock speed.
