Status:	Gearbox is not necessary for startup. It is usually run infrequently and can be started manually if needed.
Additional Info:	NTL's Gearbox software for configuring internet connections with their NTLWorld software - does a similar job to the Internet Connection Wizard which can be used instead using the dial-up details available here
