£30-£35 Budget For Cpu Cooler, P35 mobo, What's Best?

Ancell

Hi,

I have just purchased an Intel Core Duo E8400 and on COD4 it never goes above 51 on full load. But GTA IV ... Normally takes it to 60.. But I played it like 1 hour today and speedfan read 69.

so I decided I want to buy a cooler now, and dont know much on sizes or whats best. Every place I go people say on reviews( Be carefull this is a big cooler) (Or this cooler didnt fit it hit my ram slots etc) I was hopeing for any advice :)

I found these so far:

http://www.ebuyer.com/product/153202

http://www.ebuyer.com/product/115657

Also when I say the cpu hit 60c... This is not what speedfan and HWmonitor are telling me ?

With out making it sound confusing... HWMonitor says:

TMPIN 0
TMPIN 1

TMPIN 0 is the temp that hits 69 on GTA IV and 51 on cod4....

But more down on HWmonitor.. It says E8400cpu

And then temps are mostly 41, 51, So not 100% sure whats TMPIN 0 and 1 but on other peoples pc that reads there cpu. I dont want my cpu this hot as its new. :)

I attched a pic for more understanding of what I mean.

Many Thanks

(My socket is LGA775) (P35 MOBO)

I just want to mention if TMPIN 0 is my cpu temp or the blue numbers speedfan reads in my desktop bar... Even when I switch my pc on its reading 47-51... As idle temps... ? If this IS cpu temps then whats wrong here?

Then even if I go down CPU Temp e8400 Hwmonitor says 38-40c...

Thanks rage for that link.. Will that drop my cpu temp a lot ?

yes it will drop cpu temps pretty good like in the 8 to 10c range i would guess.

The Xigmatek is a great option. :)

The Xigmatek is almost equal to the mighty TRUE (the best cooler out there right now IMO) in performance, for a fraction of the price tag.

Will this still be good choice for overclocking?

Its as good a HSF as you will find. probably drop temps by 15-20c if you have decent airflow.

Ancell

Cheerz I will order now.. Whats HSF short for ?

20c I wish :O Wot will I be able to push my cpu to ? you reckon ?

[EDIT]

Just purchased :) Hope it fits easy and nice :)

Hi Ancell
it stands for heat sink & fan. with the temps you are getting, if it doesn't lower them by 20c, you need better airflow :) . as far as the OC, the 8400 is easily in 4.0 Ghz range with good cooling and a minor voltage bump.

really worth it if you spend a bit more or second one which is better than most others at a modest price

Thanks Red..Even now my temp is reading 50.. I aint even doing nothing. And my mates rpm speed is like 4000 mines only 1000 and something.. How Do I improve air flow?

(I hope this new cpu cooler is much better then stock cooler)

Thx for help once again.

I just went bios

H/W Monitor..

CPU Temp 56c

also had CPU smart fan target disabled.

Surely 58c is to hot?

yes, thats way to hot for idle

really have to disagree with you on both counts Foreword, the H50 is outdone by even medium grade air coolers (i have first hand experience with it) and the Arctic 7 is terrible.

nothing is necessarily wrong, stock intel coolers are just marginal at best.

Have you already put in the Xigmatek?

Ancell

Na I only just bought it. So its coming tuesday on next day delievery but It wudda come tomorrow but didnt make it in time :O

I just hope it fits easy. Like how I clip it etc. Well if any problems wid installation I got you guys and my laptop :) So lets see :)

If this cools it loads im overclock to 3.6 just for a while see if any difference. Or even just overclock for like 4 days.. Then put back stock settings. Just so in my mind I no it can be OC if need be. Although I dont think bios is allowing me OC.. It wouldent let me change speeds earlier. So dno how you lot do that :O Only no how to OC nivida gfx cards lol .. Il let you know how fan goes tuesday :)

Woah sorry for long reply.. What a job I just had lol.. Had to strip pc apart only mobo .... Anyway.. After a long common sense installation lol.. I finally did it 2nd attempt... Erm.. Pc temp is 38 start up... Is this good or bad now ? It use to be 57 .... so isit this a good result or still high temp ? Let us know :)

And thanks :)

Also the e8400 cores are at 29-35 each where they use be like 39-40 around der.

29c at idle is fine. 35 is a wee-bit high. How much does TMPIN0 indicate in HWMonitor? Or Temp 1 in Speedfan?

What are the temps when at load?

Ancell
09-22-2009, 01:09 PM
Temp 1 Speedfan says 40... HWMonitor says 41.....

Just played cod4 for like 20 mins... Temps was 44... Now there back down to 42-41

so its still high ? :( Im resting my pc but it wont drop below 40c now ... Stayin at 40-45 idle and on cod4..

Cpu Cores are at 33c each.

The only thing I can see is RPM fan speeds still on 1000 something again.. Other peoples RPM are like 4000 and stuff. Im not sure? Is my temps good or bad :( ?

These guys talking about volts and stuff... Should I check any of this and how ? Shud I try playing a pc game for long? and see how much the temps move?

Ancell
09-22-2009, 01:20 PM
I downloaded Core Temp and it says 31c core 1 core 2 31c... Has nothing with these 41 or 40 temp... It has 2 numbers in my desktop both say 31 31.... Also speedfan and hwmonitor also read both cores 31-33.... So is this TMPIN0 something else ? Or a diff temp ?

Ancell
09-22-2009, 01:37 PM
When playing games both cpu cores go from 31 to 35-36..

I dont belive how TMPIN can be my cpu because my cpu is fine.. and on HWMonitor it says E8400 core1, core2 30c... CoreTemp says Temp0 and Temp1 both at 30-32..... So would it be right for me to go by these temps instead? Because im so sure 40-50 idle on stock fan and now 39-40 with new fan this cant be right.. But the core1 and core2 and coretemp are reading more realastic tempatures.

I attatched a screenshot.. the large number 41c is speedfan... the 2 small numbers blue and red.. Are coretemp... Which is giving more realistic numbers surely.

I reckon coretemp is telling truth and im really worrying about playin pc games.. and i wud love to overclock. I just cant belive my idle is 40-50. So im sure this is a fail reading. Why would Hw monitor say e8400 then the core temps at like 30... when I had my old cpu it didnt say intel pentium or nothing.

(In screenshot numbers are bottom right near clock)

So I am now useing http://www.alcpu.com/CoreTemp/ which is giving me good cpu idle readings of around 30-31 and 35-36 on load. I belive this now. But if anyone else no's more and my pc is broke. Let me know plz :) Really want to fix this so I can move onto oc.

look at your bios temp, and see which it agrees with. those temps look fine. like I recommended before, don't use speedfan for core temp monitoring...it can be a bit dodgy. now is this with the Xigmatek installed?

Ancell
09-22-2009, 03:18 PM
Yeah I have installed that Xigmatek massive lol.. Im usein coretemp now because (Im not sitting here worried about something sayin 50c when it surely can not be correct, and coretemp reads both cores 30 and 34-36 full load. So im useing that and ignore other temps.. If it blows then it blows lol.. Im go bios now and check for you :) Please bios dont say 50 or 60 lol! Bet It will :(

Ancell
09-22-2009, 03:22 PM
Bios telling me 45c .... Still belive real temp is 30-33 idle which cpu core reads.

Ritwik7
09-22-2009, 03:29 PM
The actual CPU temp is higher than individual core temps. What are your ambient temps? To see how high your CPU temps go, keep a monitoring software running in the background while you play.

My CPU temp is about 35C and goes to about 40C on load. That's when ambient temps are around 27C.

Ancell
09-22-2009, 03:40 PM
I have coretemp running in background and its sayin my cpu is running at 33-35.

Ritwik7
09-22-2009, 03:49 PM
Core temp is giving temps for individual cores I presume?

Ancell
09-22-2009, 04:13 PM
Yeah but I put it to tell me highest temp only. Btw cod4 walls sometimes go black really quickly then colors load again, Reinstall driver fix this ? Nothing serious.

I dont want to keep worrying about my temp aswell. So I dont know what to do. Im sure my pc is stable tho. It is all correctly fitted. I cant feel no hot air anywhere. Pc is smooth nothing seems to be hot.. If it was to HOT wudent pc power down for protection ? Im stick with coretemp. If cores are not at 60 etc would the cpu be fine? (After spending £35 and the temps are basicly reading the same) (so dont understand that) but cores are cooler.. And I guess a 10c drop.)

Rage_3K_Moiz

I recommend using only CoreTemp, RealTemp and HWMonitor for temperature monitoring. SpeedFan is very inaccurate for this purpose.

Oh, and congratulations. :)

Ancell
09-23-2009, 05:51 AM
Thanks Rage I will stick with CoreTemp :)

Ritwik7
09-24-2009, 01:52 PM
Ancell I think you're best off first checking your idle CPU temp in BIOS. 60c for each core is too hot! That would mean that CPU temp is much higher.

Your cores should stay around 30 at idle IMO.
