kolotriha 06-21-2005, 03:06 AM Hi all
Well im so glad to have found this site,
if anyone can help me, i would be so so greatful.
Im having issues with puter freezing up when i click applications too fast whether it be a windows application or internet explorer 6.
I will give you a brief discription of what i have tried already :-
I have installed 3 different win XP pro programs,
including 1 home edition.
Done full formats every time
Done scan disk twice
Updated BIOS only at this stage
My system is as follows:-
ASUS A8N-SLI DELUXE M/B
AMD 64 939 PIN Processor 3000+ 1.8GHZ
1 GB DDR4OO PC3200 RAM
Albatron 6600GT PCI EXPRESS 128 MB Graphics card
80GB HDD SATA
Standard CRT monitor ( temporary lol)
Only programs on pc now are:-
PCCILLIN 2005 A/Virus
Avast A/Virus V4.0
Webroot Spysweeper V 3.0
NVidia Firewall
So as you can see im very frusrated also cosidering now to load win XP PRO 64 bit nothing else seems to work..
The PC is only 3 Months old and was working fine till a family member downloaded KAZZA ( By the way i hate P2P programs )
Well if anyone can render some assistance i will be so grateful..... :hotouch:
kol_indian 06-21-2005, 10:20 AM hello and welcome to techspot
the problem could be anything, but the possible ones.
dont use mulitiple Antivirus software.
try running Memtest as this could be a ram problem.
check this option if this didnt work then we will try other ones.
Phantasm66 06-21-2005, 11:01 AM Hi, pleased to meet you.
kolotriha 06-22-2005, 01:42 AM A big hello to you to Phantasm66 and kol_indian thanks.
Well kol i had this problem without 2 A/V together but i did delete 1 of them anyway but still same, i should also mention it is an intermittent problem too.
Regarding a MEMTEST where and how do i do this , sorry if i sound a little dumb here i havnt had issues like this b4..
howard_hopkinso 06-22-2005, 05:05 AM Hello and welcome to Techspot.
You can get the Memtest86+ programme from www.memtest.org
Let it run for at least seven passes. If you don`t have a floppy drive, there is an iso version that you can burn to cd, and then boot from that.
Regards Howard
kolotriha 06-23-2005, 06:30 AM I ran Memtest as you sugested and the results are listed below:-
Ran it for approx 9 hrs and did 21 passes and it found 1 error....
This is the error report
TEST # 6
PASS 20
FAMILY ADDRESS 00008243630 - 130.1 MB
GOOD 7fffffff
BAD 7ffffffd
ERROR BITS 0000002
COUNT 1
Moving inversions,32 bit pattern
Then when i got home from work i ran only test # 6 a couple more times and had no more errors..
Now can you please help decifer this puter language in plain english ??? :o
Regards Mario
howard_hopkinso 06-23-2005, 06:49 AM Don`t worry about that one single error. It`s not your ram.
What psu do you have? What are your cpu temps?
Regards Howard
kolotriha 06-24-2005, 04:14 AM well in my origanal post i have written all the spec's i think..

howard_hopkinso 06-24-2005, 06:37 AM Your temps look fine.
Now what psu do you have?

psu model xp480
kolotriha 06-24-2005, 06:56 AM hello kol ummm no got rid of it ages ago i absolytely hate them p2p stuff.
howard_hopkinso 06-24-2005, 07:00 AM Assuming that your psu is in good order, and supplying the power you need.
Go HERE (http://www.jscustompcs.com/power_supply/) and take a look at this handy power supply calculator.
How many programmes do you have running at startup?
Try disabling some programmes you don`t use or need.
Do a disk clean up, and get rid of all temp files including, internet temp and cookies.
Run a disk check and fix any errors, then defrag you hdd.
Finally, go HERE (http://www.techspot.com/vb/topic17297.html) and follow the instructions exactly.
Once you have done that, go HERE (http://www.techspot.com/vb/topic19133.html) for instructions on how to post your Hijackthis log.
Regards Howard :) :)
kolotriha 06-24-2005, 07:48 AM Thanks howard i did do most things already but i will go through them again and i will keep u posted
I have done a HJT log now b4 the clean up also a start up log 4u to look at.
regards
Mario
howard_hopkinso 06-24-2005, 08:08 AM Your system is infected.
The 010 entries in your HJT log require special attention.
Go HERE (http://www.techspot.com/vb/topic18355.html) and follow the instructions.
Once done post a fresh HJT log.
Regards Howard :grinthumb
howard_hopkinso 06-24-2005, 08:23 AM I`ve just noticed that you are running two anti virus programmes.
This is not a good idea, due to conflicts, and will slow your system down considerably. uninstall one of them.
Regards Howard
kolotriha 06-25-2005, 05:06 AM I did what you said, here is the HJT report
also i recently got the BLUE screen for the first time
the only thing i got fast enough was this:-
DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_EQUAL
What does this mean?
That was b4 i deleted the "XFIRE FILE"
I have suggestion, since we are going through all this trouble, should i install a freh copy of win XP PRO as this is home edition?
A valuation copy only.
Not that it should matter too much i hope,my problems have been going on with other win XP programs as well.
Regards
Mario
kolotriha 06-25-2005, 05:21 AM May i ask also what A/V do you recomend as one of the best to use?
howard_hopkinso 06-25-2005, 06:12 AM Once you remove these entries, your system is clean.
O23 - Service: avast! Mail Scanner - Unknown owner - C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\ashMaiSv.exe" /service (file missing)
O23 - Service: avast! Web Scanner - Unknown owner - C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\ashWebSv.exe" /service (file missing)
O23 - Service: Forceware Web Interface (ForcewareWebInterface) - Unknown owner - C:\Program Files\NVIDIA Corporation\NetworkAccessManager\Apache Group\Apache2\bin\apache.exe" -k runservice (file missing)
As far as the blue sreen goes. Right click my computer, and select properties.
Click on the advanced tab, and under startup and recovery click settings.
Untick the box that says automatically restart.
Click ok, apply, ok
Now instead of your system automatically rebooting, you should receive an error message telling you what caused the problem.
Pay particular attention to any drivers identified in the stop message.
If you don`t understand the stop message then you can post it here. Please include all the numbers.
As for you installing XP Pro that is completely up to you.
The best free antivirus programme is AVG free from http://free.grisoft.com/freeweb.php/doc/1
I would also recommend a good free firewall, either Zonealarm free or agnitum outpost. You will find those programmes at, http://www.zonelabs.com/store/content/company/products/znalm/freeDownload.jsp and http://www.agnitum.com/download/
Regards Howard :) :)
kolotriha 06-25-2005, 11:42 AM Thank you very much for your assistance in my problems
so far i think it is ok!!
I have uploaded the latest HJT log for you to look at , hoping all is good.
May i ask what was i infected with ?
I have installed only AVG as you suggested with Spysweeper...
Again i thank you very very much you are doing a great job in here well done keep up the good work..
Kindest Regards
Mario
howard_hopkinso 06-25-2005, 11:53 AM Your system is clean. Well done.
You were infected by the Winsock lsp problem I.E the 010 entries in one of your previous HJT logs.
All is fixed now. I trust your system is running much better now.
If the blue screen problem should return, please don`t hesitate to post back.
Regards and good luck Howard :) :)
