Harold the sage 08-31-2006, 04:25 PM How do i install Java Runtime Environment on Fedora core 4. I am having no luck with the instructions that come with it. fastco 08-31-2006, 10:13 PM Follow these instructions http://ubuntuguide.org/wiki/Dapper#How_to_install_J2SE_Runtime_Environment_.28JRE.29_with_Plug-in_for_Mozilla_Firefox Ad 08-31-2006, 10:13 PM Nodsu 09-01-2006, 01:28 AM Fastco: I really doubt one can apply the Ubuntu process to Fedora without some creative adjustments. Unless you are impying that Harold should install Ubuntu instead :) Harold: where did you get your JRE from and what intructions are you referring to? fastco 09-01-2006, 02:00 PM Not sure but isn't the programming language the same? Harold the sage 09-01-2006, 03:45 PM I got it from the Java website and i am reffering to the instructions on their website (http://www.java.com/en/download/linux_manual.jsp) Nodsu 09-02-2006, 04:15 AM Ok. Did you get the plain binary or the RPM version? What exactly goes wrong? jobeard 09-02-2006, 12:43 PM Not sure but isn't the programming language the same? of course! the JRE is chip (AMD, PowerPC, Intel) and OS dependent however. (ps: you can't wirte the JRE in Java itself) Harold the sage 09-03-2006, 12:49 PM Hey you know what i just got a great idea, would someone tar the files Java, firefox, and mozilla in the /usr/lib directory and then email them to me so i have something to compare with my email address is please.send.me.lots.of.span m@gmail.com. Edit: It is very silly to post your e-mail address on public webpages -- Nodsu Ad 09-03-2006, 12:49 PM Nodsu 09-03-2006, 03:42 PM When you downloaded Java, did you notice that it was over 15MB? And you also want the most of Firefox/Mozilla, which would add at least 7MB more? It is very impolite to send emails bigger than 5MB. Besides, the upper limit in most systems (including GMail) is 10MB after encoding, giving you a max of some 6-7MB. Mictlantecuhtli 09-04-2006, 04:38 PM These instructions for FC5 (http://www.fedorafaq.org/#java) might work for FC4 too. Harold the sage 09-09-2006, 04:57 PM i tried that but it killed the computer linuxchick 09-11-2006, 09:59 AM I found this regarding jre and fd 4 http://www.ces.clemson.edu/linux/fc4_setup.shtml, scroll down about half way. There's some tips/tricks here also http://www.gagme.com/greg/linux/fc4-tips.php |
