How do i install Java Runtime Environment on Fedora core 4. I am having no luck with the instructions that come with it.

Fastco: I really doubt one can apply the Ubuntu process to Fedora without some creative adjustments. Unless you are impying that Harold should install Ubuntu instead :)

Harold: where did you get your JRE from and what intructions are you referring to?

I got it from the Java website and i am reffering to the instructions on their website (http://www.java.com/en/download/linux_manual.jsp)

Ok. Did you get the plain binary or the RPM version?

Not sure but isn't the programming language the same?
of course! the JRE is chip (AMD, PowerPC, Intel) and OS dependent however.
(ps: you can't wirte the JRE in Java itself)

Hey you know what i just got a great idea, would someone tar the files Java, firefox, and mozilla in the /usr/lib directory and then email them to me so i have something to compare with my email address is please.send.me.lots.of.span
m@gmail.com.

When you downloaded Java, did you notice that it was over 15MB? And you also want the most of Firefox/Mozilla, which would add at least 7MB more?

It is very impolite to send emails bigger than 5MB. Besides, the upper limit in most systems (including GMail) is 10MB after encoding, giving you a max of some 6-7MB.

These instructions for FC5 (http://www.fedorafaq.org/#java) might work for FC4 too.
