Java on Linux

Fastco: I really doubt one can apply the Ubuntu process to Fedora without some creative adjustments. Unless you are impying that Harold should install Ubuntu instead :)

Harold: where did you get your JRE from and what intructions are you referring to?

Ok. Did you get the plain binary or the RPM version?

What exactly goes wrong?

Not sure but isn't the programming language the same?
of course! the JRE is chip (AMD, PowerPC, Intel) and OS dependent however.
(ps: you can't wirte the JRE in Java itself)

When you downloaded Java, did you notice that it was over 15MB? And you also want the most of Firefox/Mozilla, which would add at least 7MB more?

It is very impolite to send emails bigger than 5MB. Besides, the upper limit in most systems (including GMail) is 10MB after encoding, giving you a max of some 6-7MB.
