this story is a bit long but please bare with me
I have a seagate 7200.8 250 gig IDE drive which on my xp desktop was only recognised as a slave drive .

It used to be my xp master drive and has got a copy of xp on it. Then a power surge zapped my motherboard and after installing a new Motherboard the only way I could access the drive was to install xp on another drive and use that as the master with my old drive (the one with the problem) running as a slave on the same cable. I should have backed it up then but then my monitor went dead and i couldn't see what i was doing.

I don't have access to the desktop now and only have a laptop. I purchased a ide - usb extenal drive case and vista recognises all my drives except the seagate 7200.8 250 gig. I'm sure there is data on this thing (photos , nested backups of every pc i ever owned until now) has any one got any ideas how i can recover this?

I guess what i really need is a mate with a desktop i could try the slave configuration out on again but currently all i have is the laptop and usb external enclosure. Well, as said on title, I got no sound on computer. I have a Compaq Presario SR1834NX. Last night for some reason computer restarted by itself and when Windows started, bang, no more sound. It will make the starting sound of Win XP but a few seconds later it will disappear. I've tried installing the Realtek AC'97 driver but nothing happened, tried to restore the system and didn't let me restore it. I have some important information here on this computer and I would like not to format it. I read that there was a solution in the setup menu something about load optimized but couldn't find it. Without further information, I would appreciate the help. Thank you very much.

My daughter's dimension 4600, had worked for 3 years without a problem, then one day it just would not boot up. After a lot time reading advices on forums I removed the nvidea FX 5200 and tried to boot again.It will boot and I have to go into Safe Mode, however the screen is hard to read and sometimes the computer will not load my keyboard. So I purchased another Nvidea, same model, downloaded the new driver and fixes vrom their website. Well, that did not solve the problem. Of course I even tried Dell support (why, I can't imagine). Was told that I needed a new motherboard? The diagnostic lights on the rear panel, are all green, although I have had times where one or two would go amber on me. Conclusion: I now have 2 video graphic cards and a computer that will not boot with it instaled. Everytime i attempt to delete them it reappears, and i can tell its slowing down my computer quite badly.

Furthermore, there are occasions when they automatically open internet explorer and randomly spam a site called "www.ctv...something" and then i have to end the iexplorer process in task manager. I've also noticed that this virus doesn't allow me to open hidden files...when i go Tools > Folder Options > View > Tick view hidden files. It has also stuffed up my msn messenger i think.

Can someone please assist me as soon as possible !

The problem is, this bsod almost always come randomly and i havent install much programs(aside from acrobat reader and such), plus, if i just leave it on whole day without touching it/afk, it wont experience any bsod..Please help!!!!

1Gb DDR2 Ram

All the parts are brand new (except for the 8800GT and the 700W rocketfish PSU which I extracted from my old build) and it has been working fine all along until it shuts off when it was idling(left it on before I went to bed, woke up and PC was off).

I was able to turn it back on once, the PC worked fine for a week, then shut down again while I was browsing the web. I tried to turn it back on, the lights came on and fan spun for 1~2 seconds then everything shut down again

Then I wasnt able to boot it at all(no power no fan no light)

I tried disconnecting/reconnect each part(including the power cord) still no boot.

Then after couple of tries, I was able to turn it on again... I dont know what did it....

Couple of days later, PC shut off again and now it wont turn on no matter what I did...

I tested the PSU by shorting the 24 pin with paper clip, fan spin for a second then stops(the PSU is not plugged into anything) So I thought it might be the motherboard thats defected

But after I connected the PSU to another PC(the mobo uses 20 pin connector so I used the 24pin>20pin adpator), the light on the mobo came on, but no power(cant boot, and the light at ethernet port was not on) If the PSU was fine, why wouldnt my second PC boot?

Now I dont know if the problem is the PSU or the mobo?

My other PSU only has 20pin connector so I cannot test it on my mobo..

I would like to know if the source of the problem is the mobo or PSU before I buy a replacement.

Update:
I did another test on the power supply with everything plugged in except the 24pin... everything light up and PSU doesnt shut off... Does this mean PSU is working fine? Is it the mobo thats defective or is the PSU not giving enough power? Well, I upgraded to Windows 7 recently and now I'm stuck with IE8. But I'm still having a problem that I had back in IE7 on Vista.

When I click to open a new tab (I've got the New Tab page disabled, it just shows the about:blank page), usually what's supposed to happen is the address bar is given focus so the user can just start typing a link. This is what used to happen to me, for the first day or so using IE8 on Windows 7. But now what's happening is the new tab opens, the address bar gets focus for half a second (literally) and then loses it, so I have to manually give it focus. It seems a minor inconvenience...but it's really really annoying. I'm constantly opening new tabs to research some new aspect of whatever project I'm working on and I don't want to have to take the extra few seconds to make sure the address bar has focus. It's more than just giving the address bar focus, I'm so used to it just having it that I open a new tab and just start typing, so I'll open a tab and get through typing a url just to realize that the address bar doesn't have focus, so I have to give it to it, then retype the (potentially very long) url AGAIN!

The ONLY thing I can think that would interfere with the address bar is a toolbar that I have installed, which has a news ticker on it. When I open a new tab I guess the toolbar is reloaded or maybe just that component is reloaded (the news ticker is fed from an XML feed). Further research shows that no, the news ticker seems to have nothing to do with it. I disabled it in my toolbar installation and I still get no focus. I went all out and straight disabled the toolbar and BAM, I get focus again.

So here's my problem, I want to continue using my toolbar, I like my toolbar. I also want to be able to keep the ability to have my address bar be focused when I open a new tab. It's a Conduit toolbar...so...does anyone have any suggestions?

Recently, my friend's iPod ended up broken, so I decided to try it with the HDD that was in it.
HDD: toshiba mk8010gah
So here's the issue: I tried erasing/formatting the drive with Windows 7, XP, and OS X.
XP doesn't even list the drive in the disc manager, but still lists it under hardware manager. Windows 7 lists it in hardware manager, but can't format or erase. OS X recognizes it and sees its size/model etc, but can't erase.
I've done a lot of digging, and read that even HDDGURU's Wipe Tool and Atola's HDD Capacity Restore aren't effective. Apparently Apple has put an HPA/DCO on the drive, and then special firmware... and the only way to remove this is with special hardware.
Any ideas or thoughts?
I'd like to find a hard drive firmware repair tool that I can buy online, but it seems most companies only list product info on their sites (no online buying option). ]]> JimboJangles http://www.techspot.com/vb/topic138334.html
