I posted this on extremeoverclocking first but am getting no responses so decided I would post it here also, it is divided into the 3 posts I made there.

I just O'cd my Q6600 up to 3g once again and when I rebooted my keyboard quit working, figure this out if you can. I went back into bios and reset to default and now it works again, I am using a Merc Stealth and razor mouse. At first boot after Oc keyboard worked to inter password but didn't when vista finished loading, 2nd boot wouldn't work at enter password stage so turnd off PC then rebooted to default. Should mention that nvidia drivers quit and recovered at 1st boot.

PCI-E was at 100 and couldn't find a PCI setting anywhere with anything close to 33. wierd as it seems when I set bios back to default everything is fine but if I change anything including setting ram to specs my keyboard just quits, it does work while in bios but quits during windows loading. I am going back and trying everything 1 step at a time and see if I can find where it is quiting at will gwet back to you.

After reset, ram goes back to DDR2 800 and when I reset it to specs of 1066 and 5-6-6-18 with no CPU Oc that is when keyboard quits, nothing else is changed. I don't know what happened as ram was running fine at 1066 before I tried O'cing CPU and I did not do anything to ram settings.

Any idea if there's a bottleneck or something? Btw, in practical terms Crysis is getting some annoying FPS drops; this shouldn't be due to the 2gb ram...

Hi guys,

I'm running an Intel Core 2 E6300 1.86Ghz with a Radeon HD 3870 card. The card worked fined for a while but is now constantly overheating in any graphically intensive game, even those that should be well within its capabilities. Idle temperatures are about 50c, but as soon as I start a game (pracitcally any game above CS 1.6 or Starcraft level) it skyrockets to 100-110c, artifacts appear, and the computer freezes forcing the graphic card drivers to restart.

I tried fixing the fan to 100% and I'm not even sure the various utilities (Rivatuner etc.) are actually cranking the speed up (I dont hear any sound difference). Anyhow the results are always the same, 5-15 mins into any game the temperature shorts the card out.

Can somebody help me with this please?

Greetings!

Firstly, my apologies for computer ignorance and my most sincere gratitude for your attention and patience.

My computer has been stable for around 2 years until last night it started freezing and restarting by itself, usually when there's a lot of applications running, or I'm running a game that requires a lot of memory and heats up my pc. For the record however, it has froze on BIOS setup too, which confuses me.

I figured that showing the system summary plus speedfan and additional info would help understanding so here:

i138.photobucket.com/albums/q279/TheDigitalKitty/spec.jpg
i138.photobucket.com/albums/q279/TheDigitalKitty/fan.jpg

Temp1 stays at 45-50ºC without any major application running and goes up to 60-65ºC when running World of Warcraft, I assume that's Mainboard temperature.

Because I'm afraid of overheat (Had past problems with a different computer because it was dusty - And yes, I'm keeping this one clean), I have an external mini-fan running and turned towards the tower to cool it a bit.

My computer is apparently virus and spyware free (Ran Avira and Spybot) and I have most my drivers updated according to DriverMax.

Let me know what additional information I can and should provide, I'd like to know if my PC is shutting down due to overheat and if not, what would you advice me to check?

Hey all,

I am totally new to overclocking or working with the inside of a computer in everyway. I watched my friend put this computer together for me (he recommended what parts I buy, etc.) about 2 years ago. The only thing I did was to pop in the RAM

Ok so 3 basic questions I have then I will list my specs:

1) Is it worth it for me to overclock? I am super tight on cash and just want to buy some new RAM and get this thing faster for about 12-18 months till I can afford a new computer.

2) I am considering buying 2 gb of Kingston ValueRAM 2GB (2 x 1GB) 184-Pin DDR SDRAM DDR 400 (PC 3200) System Memory Model KVR400X64C3AK2/2G - Retail for $65 bucks (thats my budget unfortunately). So is it a good idea?

3) Any advice on some basics of how I can begin to overclock on this board?
I hope that is all the information necessary. It took me a long time to type it all out. Too bad this CPUZ program doesn't have an easy copy/paste text file.

Please let me know if there is anything else I need to provide that can help out.

Thank you so much to anyone out there willing to take time to help me out.

Okay so I recently had a bit of a problem with my power supply.
Not sure why, but the 12 volt P4 CPU power connector quit working.

I wired up the connector to a 4-pin molex accessory connector now and the computer boots fine without complaints. Made sure to use the OTHER accessory rail, not the one that has all my devices on it.

So anyways, I get the computer back up and running, and the only thing that seems off is that my temperature, which was previously being reported as between 39C to 55C, is now getting up to over 100C or so the thermometer says. Not sure why, but it's clearly running very hot, much hotter than before.

CPU: Intel Pentium Dual Core 2.5 GHz E5200
Motherboard: Gigabyte G31M-ES2L
PSU: OCZ 500W StealthXtreme

Anyone got any ideas?

I did re-mount the heatsink when I was troubleshooting the problem earlier, so I guess it's possible that I need to do it again and use some more thermal paste... however I'm pretty sure I mounted it pretty well. (However just to be sure I'll run out and get some more thermal paste tomorrow and mount it again...)

Hi guys,

I wanted to ask you about "setFSB".

I have read on the web a bit before using this tool, and I understand that software OC of the CPU from Windows is usually a no-no as it is generally considered unstable.

However, I was only looking to OC my processor by only a little just to be able to see if I could achieve something workable with this software. I took a risk and tried it at different clock speeds.

I changed the FSB on it to obtain

2.80 GHz (Freeze & BSOD rightaway)
2.70 GHz (froze & crashed Crysis and SF4 - randomed a BSOD)
2.66 GHz (some artifacts in Crysis Warhead - no BSOD)
2.65 GHz (some artifacts in Crysis Warhead - no BSOD)
2.60 GHz <--- Most stable - No artifacts and no game / OS crashes

2.30 GHz is stock freq.

I have used it and have seen that CPU temps are within reasonable range (48C-52C) while overall performance has increased slightly.

Windows 7 posted an index of 5.5, up from 5.0 for the CPU.
Crysis Warhead 1.1 plays at an avg of 18FPS (playable), up from 12FPS, using a GTX260 core 216 (OC to 720 core 1143 mem - max temp of 51C).

So far, I haven't seen any problems when I OC'd the CPU to 2.6GHz.

What do you think of this program and how close or far am I from giving my PC a debilitating disease? ;)

The only nag I have had with it is that I have to start it every time after a cold boot and increase the FSB to OC the CPU speed to 2.6GHz. Other than that, I haven't had a single BSOD since I installed this program last week.

Please see the attachment for a visual of what I am at using setFSB.

Your thoughts please?
