Alright this is shallow but i found this sight because i have a problem. last night i plugged in my computer and it worked fine. this morning went to turn my screen back on and nothing, towers power is fine but nothing else. Fan is on, disk drive opens, power lights turn on. but things like the mouse, the keyboard and the screen have now power or even register being plugged in, and when i turn the tower turns on it beeps three times....I'm really bothered by this so if anyone could fill me in on how to get my computer up and running again it'd be a big help.

Which touch screen fan controller is the best?

I have a cooler master cosmos case with a door on the front, so I cannot use any fan controller that has dials or knobs on the front. I am looking for a good touch screen one to control my 5 120mm fans in my case as well as my 4-pin cpu fan. Any recommendations? Thanks in advance for your help.

my custom build system:
ADM phenom II X4 processor with stock cooler
4gb G.Skill DDR2 memory(2 sticks)
320 Western Digital HD
LG 22x dvd burner
GIGABYTE GA-MA790X-UD4P mobo
Rocketfish 700W PSU
EVGA 8800GT GPA
Windows 7 home premium

All the parts are brand new (except for the 8800GT and the 700W rocketfish PSU which I extracted from my old build) and it has been working fine all along until it shuts off when it was idling(left it on before I went to bed, woke up and PC was off).

I was able to turn it back on once, the PC worked fine for a week, then shut down again while I was browsing the web. I tried to turn it back on, the lights came on and fan spun for 1~2 seconds then everything shut down again

Then I wasnt able to boot it at all(no power no fan no light)

I tried disconnecting/reconnect each part(including the power cord) still no boot.

Then after couple of tries, I was able to turn it on again... I dont know what did it....

Couple of days later, PC shut off again and now it wont turn on no matter what I did...

I tested the PSU by shorting the 24 pin with paper clip, fan spin for a second then stops(the PSU is not plugged into anything) So I thought it might be the motherboard thats defected

But after I connected the PSU to another PC(the mobo uses 20 pin connector so I used the 24pin>20pin adpator), the light on the mobo came on, but no power(cant boot, and the light at ethernet port was not on) If the PSU was fine, why wouldnt my second PC boot?

Now I dont know if the problem is the PSU or the mobo?

My other PSU only has 20pin connector so I cannot test it on my mobo..

I would like to know if the source of the problem is the mobo or PSU before I buy a replacement.

Update:
I did another test on the power supply with everything plugged in except the 24pin... everything light up and PSU doesnt shut off... Does this mean PSU is working fine? Is it the mobo thats defective or is the PSU not giving enough power? O_O Im so confused

HP ZE5400 Notebook Bios Password

Hy, I have now spend more then 20 hours searching for a solution to reset my bios password. I forgot the password as it my old laptop and I need to login to bios to adjust few things. First thing I did was pulling out the cmos battery, the date and time is reset but bios password survives. I tried unlock 6 based on my system hash code 03377 with no luck. Does anyone have any suggestion what else could I do ?

Hi I have a computer which i built it has worked fine for months, I had an lg monitor and then it kept going in and out of standby every 2 seconds, i saw the windows screen then the lg screensaver over and over. So I googled possible problems, it said there is a common fault in lg screens that causes this, so I took it back to the shop and got another acer one, I plug this in the pc boots up but the screen does nothing, just says no signal, i checked/replaced the cables, it's not those. but I know it's booting into windows enter password screen, because when i click on where the turn off icon is and hit enter it turns off, I wouldn't know if it booted into desktop because I turned the windows booting sound (da da da da) off ages ago. btw it's vga.

ps keyboard light comes on and all sounds are as normal, but can't see anything on the screen.

I do want a quad core for multitasking, since I always have a ton of stuff going on at once. I need a fast CPU and good graphics card for streaming and playing HD content w/o hiccups right? Not too sure if all I need is a good graphics card for that. I don't plan on overclocking, and if I do it would be a slight one (like 2.66 to 3.0). Anything else you guys need to know, just ask. First AMD build

To the point, I'm a gamer/designer I do a lot of multi-tasking, I use a lot of Adobe products and I play games mostly MMORPGs, and FPSs. Computer Shuts off Randomly

When I went to college 6 months ago. I brought my desktop with me, worked fine before I left. Got to school set it up, and when I'm running many processes on my computer or loading up a game it will turn off. Then after that some times won't even turn back on. I thought maybe it was my power supply since the one I had was the minimum power I needed, and was old. So I bought a brand new PSU with more power, and the same problem is happening.

Here is my specs

Motherboard: Gigabyte S Series P35-DS3R
PSU:Corsair TX 850 W
Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU E6750 @ 2.66GHz (2 CPUs)
Memory: 4 Gigs of Ram
Hard Drive: 800 Gig HD Total
Video Card: NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT

I tried many different ideas to fix it. I thought it was either the power supply was going bad, or over heating. But I got a new power supply and the heating is normal

UPDATE:
Alright, I just removed everything from my computer, took motherboard out and processor out. Put it all back in and made sure everything was connected, and connected tightly. Computer turned on, and was loading everything. Tested loading a game, and right before the map loaded up it crashed. Then turned computer right back on, and turned off in a minute or so.

I'm going try get all my information on my backup hard drive then reformat. If that doesn't work any idea?

Stuck In Loop At Boot Up

My pc (Cyberpower i7 Andromeda Infinity, Vista64) seems to be stuck in some sort of loop at start up. Since rebooting my pc this afternoon the following happens:

Starts with the normal small message...

'NVIDIA Geforce....etc' (Can never catch what it says. Its too quick and is partially obscured by a monitor pop up (Which is normal. Also mentions VGA bios)

Then a new black screen with...

'Award Bootblock V1.0
Copyright (c) 2000, Award Software. inc

Scanning Bios image in hard drive...' Whilst also attempting to access the DVD drive (green light is on).

Then it restarts and goes through the process again.

This goes on until i hold down the power button and turn it off (which makes me cringe!).

Checked inside the casing and everything's still connected as far as i can tell.

Been searching around and apparently this seems to be something to do with the BIOS and is a common problem with GIGABYTE motherboards, which i have.

Sorry if the info I'm giving is a bit vague, but this is totally new to me. Posted on the Cyberpower forums but so far no replies. Any ideas?

I want to upgrade my video card, I asked the hp tech support if it's okay to upgrade my psu and will it fit my cpu casing.
This is their reply: "from the product (m9350f) specifications I see that your computer was shipped with Standard ATX Power Supply Unit (PSU) of 460 watts. I would like to inform you that the HP recommends maximum of 460watts PSU for this model computer, since we have not tested with higher power output, so we do not recommend to use higher power output. As an alternative, I would suggest you to install a video/graphics card which requires 460 watts or lesser than that."

Does it mean that I should not upgrade my psu to a higher watts because my cpu can't take it?

Or are they just saying this because they don't want me to buy other brands than theirs?

I really want to upgrade my psu to upgrade my gpu but I want to make sure if it will not toast my cpu. PLEASE HELP!

Im trying to figure out why my fan speeds arent dropping when the % drops right down to 10% on the 'main' tab of this program. I have all the fans correctly identified and configured but i cant lower my fan speeds manually or using the 'automatic fan speed' option? Any help appreciated.

DVD drive that won't read purchased DVD's

I've got a dvd drive that will read and write dvd r's but nothing that I've purchased except older games. It also won't write dvd rw's anymore. I've heard this might be a virus or perhaps a wrecked drive and I'm this close to buying a new one since they're not too pricey anymore. If anyone can think of any reason that this might be a software issue I could use the advice

Faulty Power Button

I have been looking at this computer that a lady gave me to try and fix. I have deduced that the computer is all fine except for the power button. Everything is plugged in properly, the power supply works just fine. When I push the power button though to power on the system, the system doesn't respond/turn on. Does anybody know where I could buy just the button replacement? I have tried tiger direct, and googled for the last 45 minutes, and cannot find just a button replacement. I really don't want to buy a whole barebones kit for only one button. It is an emachines tower pc.

I replaced li-ion battery with a AAA battery pack (NiMH), used the board that was on the ion battery pack.
The new batteries do charge , but will not hold a deep charge... need schemantics or need to know what the board on the ion pack fuction was or do I need more emf to force a deeper charge?

Friends DSL connection slow

The problem is this: (It started about 2 wks. ago.) Apart from the internet, the computer works fine, it's only the internet speed that is extremely slow. It's a 512Kbps DSL connection, and our 256Kbps connection (also DSL) is faster than theirs. Both our laptop, and the internet service men's laptop were connected to the same modem, and it worked fine, so that narrows it down to only an internal problem in the computer. My brother has been working on it (I haven't seen it) and he tried several things, such as: installing AVG 9.0 and scanning, installing another browser, trying it on Safe Mode, etc. The results were that there were no viruses, and the problem continued with the browser and safe mode and any other thing he tried. Since it isn't our computer, the only system specs we know are the following: an MSI motherboard; Windows XP SP3; and an integrated Nvidia NForce NIC. Sorry I can't get more specific.

Does anybody have any idea as to what it could be? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, thehobbitech

USB Port Problem on HP Compaq dx2300 Microtower

I have a HP Compaq dx2300 Microtower and have four USB Port on the back of the PC and with this port one is not working at all or sometimes working then disconnect. My two front port work well.

Where could be the problem?

All Drivers are well install and I have the latest one Windows 7 updated all. (It did the same problem on Windows XP and Vista)

Total boot failure

For some reason my PC (Dell Dimension 8300) suddenly won't boot.

When I power on I get the BIOS splash screen and then it goes to a black screen with flashing underscore and doesn't go any further.

If I try to reboot and enter BIOS (F2) it says entering BIOS then goes to black screen with flashing underscore

If I try to go to boot sequence (F8 or F12) it bleeps and then goes to black screen with flashing underscore

I have not made any recent (hardware or software) changes to the machine. I have had the machine several years and installed Windows 7 on it from Microsoft.com back in February - and its been quite happy all of this time.

If I put a new Windows 7 Install DVD in - unfortunately this is skipped due to previous setting in BIOS (HDD first)

Its running twin SATA drives - if I pull either of the HDD power leads or SATA leads it then says
>> SATA Primary/Secondary (as appropriate) drive 0 not found
It then sits on that message

The machine is running BIOS Dell A07

I have not moved the machine recently

I used the machine happily last night, shut-down normally. Then today got this problem when I turned it on

I am at a loss - it seems that I have a large paperweight at the moment

Keyboard is typing several letters instead of one needed

Hi,

I have an hp laptop and my keyboard is being acting very weird. When pressing almost all the keys, i get a group of letters. For example, when pressing "v" i get "bgv". some of them stopped responding at all. I used to get "1qa" when pressing "q", but now it doesnt even respong. Also, the on-screen keyboard shows that both shifts are pressed.

Can anyone help me with this?

ok, so on thursday night i turned my pc off as it was pretty hot and i wasnt going to be home and everything was running perfectly, i got home and turned it on and my screen stays in standby like mode and my pc doesnt load up. i tried unplugging all my hdds and just startin up with my system hdd left in but i had the same result.i tried taking everything out and just leaving my system hdd, dvd drive and gfx card but it still had the same result.i also checked all my connections and looked over my mobo carefully and everything seems to be fine so far as i can tell. no one else was home for the time i was gone and we had no thunderstorms the night i was gone. if anyone has any inkling as to what it could be i would be so grateful as i only just got my pc running again after a very long battle(almost 2 months) of up and downtime due to Win32.Vitro.

EDIT: i forgot to add that my main hdd does spin up and the hdd led on my case stays on like its loading for a long time then goes to a very dull light and thats all it does.

Do many CD/DVD drives fail to support boot these days?

Not my problem, but one I have noticed many, many times lately on these pages. So many people report 'unable to boot from install CD' or DVD, despite having the boot order correct. Can some experienced repair technician throw light on what is going on - are CD/DVD devices becoming quite quickly unable to support booting?

And what may be the cause? Is there some change in recent motherboards, is XP/Vista/Win7 sending out updates which interfere with motherboard drivers? Do devices simply fail quite quicky these days? .... or what?

Computer overheating / Turn off Problem

A week or two ago I had a problem with my computer randomly turning itself off. I put this computer together with new parts roughly 15 months ago and havent had a single problem with it before.

Basically it began with a phase of not booting up properly, during start up it would get to the gigabyte motherboard display screen and just freeze there with all the lights on the motherboard lit up.

It eventually stopped doing this but after a day or two began just shutting itself down randomly.

I assumed it was a problem with heat and dust so took everything apart and cleaned the parts and fans completely, this got her up and running perfectly again.

Then today the problems started again. When I got home I turned the power on but it would not even get to the motherboard screen, jsut making the initial whirring noise but not making it to the beep that usually occurs before startup.

Again I cleaned the case completely (Not much dust there luckily) but no luck. So i started removing certain parts and trying to startup, from swapping the memory sticks to sitting the fan back on the CPU. It finally worked after removing my Tv Tuner card. Ive only had this card a month or so which wasn't long before the problems satrted. I assumed it must have been a PSU problem with the stuff I had in there so started planning a bit of a shop for a new one.

But just now the computer (Being untouched, I was over the other side of the room) Turned itself off again.

Can anybody tell me the best way to fix this problem? The details are below:

HDD wont work when graphics card plugged in?

Neither one of my HDD will work/spin when i start my pc when i have the graphics card installed. When i remove the card and reboot, no problem? This occured after i purchased a new PSU. The PSU was installed but pc wouldnt boot at all so i removed it and refitted old PSU , now im having this problem with graphics card. Any help appreciated.

So my fans been speeding up really fast and they're making a lot of noise for the past couple weeks.
I also noticed the power supply is very hot and it kinda smells like burning plastic.
I Dusted out the fan and everything and it made the fan noise and speed go away for a few days..

Then today i tried playing Call Of Duty MW2 and now its getting so hot that it shuts down my computer completely and smells like burning really bad

So Then i open it up dust it out again, and realize that the power supply fan is not spinning, So I'm Hoping its just my fan burnt out.

I've been reading online about what power supply's people are recommending

And I don't want to go all out just to find this power supply, I just wanna go to best buy and buy one, But i don't know if this one will be good enough.

when i first bought my computer they told me i needed a better power supply so they gave me some 550 watt one I'm not sure what name brand it was(it bad obviously lol) It's only a year old computer..

DVD Burner Problems

I keep having a repeating problem with my DVD burners. They all keep having the same problem diff brands tried on diff comps. It reads all disks with Media on them just fine. They read blank CDs just fine but when ever I put in a blank DVD they wont read them. I put in a blank DVD and the Burner starts up. You hear the whirring noise as it picks up speed and then a series of clicks. Tick tick tick tick tick. Then the Burner shuts down and starts over repeating the picking up speed and thent the clicks. I have four DVD Burners all of them are doing the same thing. DVDs that are already burnt work fine and blank CDs work fine. Im tired of buying new Burners does anyone know of a way to fix my problem? I would appreciate any help you could toss my way.

Boot PC with wireless keyboard?

Hey im currently building a home theater PC out of a Xbox 360 case, and i was wondering if theres a wireless keyboard out there with a power on button. So when i get my own place in a few months i can just tuck away a keyboard n mouse near the couch n kick it on with the keyboard. Otherwise my other thought is kinda annoying if my room mates wana turn it on. Which is install "logmein" on it and then remote to it to boot it and just control it from my laptop.. If you know of a keyboard with a power up feature... if thats even possible or any other suggestions please give me a heads up.

I have a Dell XPS 400 desktop running Windows XP. Recently, my wireless keyboard became almost unresponsive. It will type, but the delay per keystroke is about a second. I changed batteries, checked the range with my wireless receiver, and nothing improved. So I assumed it was a bad keyboard and bought a wired USB keyboard. It's still doing the same thing. I checked the keyboard settings through control panel, and everything is set to its fastest setting. I reinstalled the driver, and the device status says it is working properly. What's even stranger, before Windows boots up the keyboard appears to work fine. I went into one of my setup menus before Windows booted and the keyboard was immediately responsive. I'm thinking it's a Windows thing, but I'm at a loss as to what it might be. Any suggestions?
