I know the previous threads are locked because all the information needed to do an unlock should have been posted... However I've had no luck (Details below)

I dont want to be one of those annoying people who dont even try to read the FAQ's and what not before I start asking for help I tried to use a few of the generators and have attempted the paperclip method at the moment on a Dell Inspiron 1300 a friend gave to me to try to unlock.

When it first boots, I get the Dell BIOS, with no prompt to enter setup. After that it states "Invalid configuration information - please run setup program. Then I get the grey "You are not allowed to access this system without a password" screen

At first I tried to pull the CMOS battery, no luck, then I attempted the paperclip method (I can post the location of the 24C02N chip for future reference) but to no avail.

Any clue on why it wouldn't work? I've attempted it about 5-6 times. When the leads are bridged, it powers on then auto power off (I guess it senses the short?) I tried to just power it on then apply the clip trick but still no dice.

Because I can't change the boot order (doesn't give me the option and I've tried mashing my delete/f2/f12/f8/fanything button) to give me the setup screen, I cant use the DSTCD iso method..

I think I've tried everything mentioned on the board already and I definately did the paperclip thing correct (And I already put back together the laptop so i'm going to cry if you tell me to try again!)

Are there other method that you can conjur up would be much appreciated... and if the easist thing happens to be to just post the service id's then here they are.
System Id is 4RvR4C1-595B
Thanks for your help and patience,
-me :)

Since I'm flashing the bios, I would think that all the settings will be lost. Is that the case?

Today I purchased a memory module for an older laptop (Model No. Compaq Presario 1500US). The module I purchased was a 512mb Corsair Value Select DDR-266mhz stick.

When I put it into my laptop's free slot it booted fine and worked for three hours. When I rebooted it, however, it displayed the windows loading screen with the blue bar, and then immediately bluescreened and rebooted. The STOP error is displayed for a fraction of a second, so I can't read any information on it (Unfortunately)

I tried rebooting with only the original stick in and it got the same error. Same thing with only the new module, and the same thing when I tried safe mode.

Do you think this is a memory issue or could it just be that my 7 year old machine has just given up the ghost?

Hello,

My Latitude D531 is powered using the wall adapter without the battery. It worked well until recently. Now when I connect the adapter the power light on the laptop is a constant green. However, when I press the power button nothing happens. The laptop does not turn on, the fans do not turn on and there is no hard drive activity. I already ruled out a defective adapter. I also used compressed air to blow out the dust out of the laptop (there was abundant dust). It is now dust free yet I still have the problem. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

I'm asking for a friend, she has an Acer 5315. On turning on it says" Windows did not shut down properly press enter to start".
Windows vista sign comes up
"Magnify not responding" She hasn't a clue what this is.
uses x to close this, "application is not responding"
Black screen with white arrow appears.
On top of screen there is a flashing green "sandwich" (her words)
on the left hand side a "satelit dish" orange flasing
Message appears " failed to connect to windows service, Windows could not connect to the system, system event notification service service.

This problem prevents limited use from log onto system.
As an admin user you can review the system event log, details why the service did not respond. Acer event tray has stopped working. A problem caused a program to stop working correctly.
Norton is flashing, after checks it comes up with " E mail in not fixed
E mail out not fixed.
can't fix anything because it won't go any further.
Only way to turn off laptop is by on off button.
Question: Can she return to an earlier time, if so how, she does not have a disk with this laptop. She gets online through a dongle. Thanks in advance

Greetings,

My almost 3 year old Asus X52 F3SV Notebook suddenly froze and shut itself down today. It will not boot past the 'Asus' logo screen. The furthest it got was 'loading windows', but quickly rebooted once that screen showed up.
It has been running quite hot lately, but i cleaned the fan out last weekend, and it had been running without problem since then.
I'm running Windows Vista Premium, with no other real problems until now, with up to date windows updates and regular Spybot and anti-virus scans.
There were random multicoloured lines running through the Asus screen on the first reboot after freezing. Could it be my graphics card? (Nvidia 8600m). I did not hear any crackling/popping sounds, so I really hope it's not dead yet.
I've looked around these forums, but couldn't find a similar problem/solution.

Thank you.

I tried a hard drive that was working perfectly that I removed two months ago because I wanted a bigger one and it does the same thing , so it cant be a viris or malware.
Has anyone ever seen this before?

I'm searching for a good racing game and it would be okay to pay if it's worth it - but their so many to choose between. Any tips of good racing game apps ( with many maps, choose car...) ?

Which free game app is your favorite? My favorite free game right now would be "Rat on run" by Donuts Games.
I wasn't sure if I chose the right forum for this question.

Hello,

Before reading the below paragraph NOTE: I used the windows 7 upgrade advisor to tell me if there are any compatibility problems and nothing came in.

I recently installed Windows 7 on my Acer Aspire 6530 and it worked great, no problems at all! I thought it was amazing due to microsoft's previous attempts. Anyway in the excitment I attempt to upgrade my other Acer Aspire 7720 which also is a laptop, and I boot it while on the computer so I can save my files, and then it booted with a black screen with a flashing white dash, so I attempted to install Windows 7 by simply booting it with a CD, after all of that, it has the same result.

Obviously all my files are gone, but I was smart enough to make a back-up which it is now on, but what I want to know is there is anyway to fix it so I CAN use Windows 7, there shouldn't be any problems upgrading my system, what has gone wrong?

(PREVIOUS OS/ VISTA HOME PREMIUM)
(WINDOWS 7 ULTIMATE IS MY CD)

Hi,
I brought an HP 6715s notebook from eBay and it never booted. So I searched for hardware problems onto Mother Board and found that the previous owner broke the power switch by means of a screwdriver or something similar.
I asked informations, pictures, schemes about it in this forum some months ago without success, I searched them throught internet and so on always without success, and the last time I guessed that notebook power connector is a bit strange for me: the power source isn't like standard types. The notebook is an HP 6715s.
The Power connector has the ground on the external ring side and +19V into the internal ring side. There is another central pin that is something more then 12V voltage but after connected it goes to about 5,9v voltage.
HP information explain that the power source is "smart-pin" type and informations over the web say:

1) that the central pin should be usefull for saving power tecnology;

2) others write that it is needed for to say to HP notebooks that the Power source is an HP original;

3) others that it is normally grounded and that it's used to tell to the notebook that power supply is connected althought that the batteries.

Someone says that they can use any power source for those HP notebooks, someone says that notebook doesn't turn on if they haven't a smart-pin power source type.

I'm a bit confused because I can't find any absolutely right information. I can't find anything about pinout information, I don't know what is the right voltage for the central pin; I really don't know if it is needed for to say something to the notebook, or if it listens any kind of signal from the notebook for control purposes or anything else.

I would like to receive any kind of informations about this problem please.
Any help will be apreciated
thanks in advance

Hello. I'm in the market for a new PC laptop, and I'm curious about my options for the graphics card. The laptop I'm getting will be high-end (around $2500 to $3000 most likely), and of all the sites I've checked out (mainly HP, Sony, and Dell), the best graphics card that I've seen available for any notebook is the 1GB Nvidia GeForce GT 130M (there's also the 1GB ATI Mobility Radeon, but I've read that the 1GB GeForce is better). So, my question is -- is the 1GB GeForce the best graphics card out there that a notebook PC can use, or are there better ones that I could buy separately and install myself (or have someone install)? If so, I have two other questions. First, what is the best (or some of the best) graphics cards out there that I could buy and have installed on my laptop when I get it, and where can I find them? Second, how would I go about having the graphics card that I purchased separately installed? Could I do it myself -- remove the one the came with the laptop and install the one I bought separately (or can you install more than one on a single laptop)? Or would I have to take it to a shop to have them install it for me?

Any help regarding all or any of these questions will be very, very much appreciated. Thanks in advance!

The harddrive boots, I get the lights and everything, but absolutely nothing shows up on the screen. The light on the screen doesn't turn on or anything. I was thinking that it might be a BIOS related issue since this happened after my laptop shut down during the update. So would resetting the CMOS or anything like that fix this problem? Or will I have to hot flash the BIOS?

I hope someone can help me with this weird problem
My laptop is Satellite U405-S2833 with 1.2 GB Core 2 duo.

It came with a Vista home premium operating system, but I later added XP professional to it (Dual booting)
About 10 months ago, the touchpad as well as the 3 USB ports stopped functioning. Two of the ports will not recognize peripherals, but could power the items, while the third was totally redundant. Since then, I have been using an express card USB adapter for attaching an external mouse and other peripherals. The problems were occurring in both operating systems.
Laptop technicians have had a look at it to no avail.

Here comes the weird part: On occasions when I had to repair or install windows, the pad works perfectly, only to stop working after windows has fully installed.

NB: I have updated the BIOS to the latest version (4.0). Windows 7 RC also exhibited the same problem

The HD died on my Toshiba laptop the other day. I replaced it and tried to do a full recovery from the disks that were furnished with the laptopbut had no luck.

I called Toshiba's tech support and talked to 2 different techs who both said that the problem was with my new HD.

I can install Linux on the HD without a hitch.

I can boot from the disks that came with the laptop and copy files to the new HD with no trouble.

I can see all the files on the recovery disks but if I try to do a full recovery I get error code 03-EEEE-0000.

From what I've been able to find online, those recovery disks are really nothing more than a set of coasters.

Has anyone had any luck doing a full recovery from the disks supplied with a Toshiba laptop and if so what did you do to make them work?
