Hello,

I have been having some memory issues and I am going to run some memory checks tonight to find out where the culprit lies.

I am running 2x 500mb and 2x 1gb sticks. I believe the culprits are one of the 1gb sticks. My question is, if I find that only one of the sticks is in error, will I be able to simply remove one of the sticks and still run the other two as dual channel? I have a friend that says he's not sure if you can run a single stick of dual channel memory without it's mate (if sold in a kit). I don't know if that's true or not... so I'm coming to you guys (and gals) for help.

Hi Guys,

Currently running win 7 64 with 2*2gb(4gb) geil gx24gb8500c5udc and have no probs what so ever, but I'd like to upgrade to 8gb as don't want to end up in dead end with lack of it in year or so.
There is no same ram left in my city, I can't order it online and I read somewhere that mixing different manufacturers isn't great idea.

My question is, if I buy ram with same speed 1066, same latency timings 5-5-5-15, and voltage 2.2v, 1066 @ 2.2v, but from different manufacturer (transcend, corsair, kingston, ocz), would I have problems running it (all 8gb) at 1066?
Mainboard is biostar ta790gb 128, phenom2 940 @ 3.6.

Any help would be most welcome!

Thanks in advance!

... a humble & grateful "Hello" to all.............................

>>i got's a Vaio desktop with a motherboard that will load Linux SUSE on my new WD, 500gig , HDD -from a boot CD BUT, absolutely refuses to do that with a good, previously used Windows CD ("Disk not recognized", etc. etc.)

>> it is a sad animal story of how I got to this point and I am omitting details to pose three Y/N questions.

Can anyone out there tell me, please :

1. Can operating language "mutate" as a result of a change from NTFS to FAT32 ?

2. Can a fragment of Norton Security remain after a "delete" and "hang-up" in CMOS or BIOS ?

3. Lastly, (and hypothetically), if some fool was using a Sony boot disk which was in NTFS, to load services and devices into, a FAT32 based Windows XP OS AND this same fool unwittingly hit "cancel" during the boot process, crashing the system - could a mutant piece of language enter MBR, CMOS or even BIOS ?. Hypothetically...

Respects,

I've been experiencing some (seemingly) random computer restarts. I posted my crash information in the Windows OS forum and got redirected here. I've had this problem for a year or so now and it comes and goes, with no restarts for months and then bursts of many. I made a thread quite a while ago concerning this issue which is now locked.

I got told to mention that my error is 0x8E and the driver cited is AmdK8.sys. Here's some extra information too!

Source: System Error
Category: (102)
Event ID: 1003
I tried to attach my minidump but it says that i can't because it's already uploaded it another thread. Check it out in the second post (if you need it) at
The problem I am having is that the system only recognises 8GB of memory, if I reseat the memory it will be recognised some of the time but often when I reboot it loses 4 GB of memory. The memory was a 12GB kit designed for use with an i7 system. Incidently, when I run the windows experience index the system crashes and reboots, the rest of the time it runs OK.
Anyone any suggestions of the problem here.

If i use more than 1 of the 1gig sticks it will work great for a while. Sometimes a few hours sometimes a few minutes but eventually it will lock up.

The 1 gig sticks are the same brand style ect. Shouldnt i be able to use both? According to crucial i should be able to use 4 gigs??

I have tried putting the i gig in the slots together also i have tried using both the blues ( 1 & 3 ) That way it wont even start. With one in the first 2 it starts but then locks up.
The brand is Super-Talent
There is a model number of D32PB1GN on them
It also says PC3200

I dont know how to check to see if this is the right ram for sure but the people i bought it from says it is??

Is there any setting or something i am doing wrong?

PS i have tried reseating several times, its not that.

Thanks in advance.

Using the same software. I did notice when i took it out, there was some white stuff on the bottom of the processor, under the pins, I think it might be from the CPU holder on the motherboard but I'm not sure. Could this be the reason it is hotter? Please help this is driving my absolutely nuts.

Ok So I built this computer nearly 2 years ago and it's generally been very good.

Yesterday when i was putting the system under a lot of stress it decided to turn off and when turned back on it said that the cpu had overheated. So I thought I'd tread carefully and only use it for a little while and then put some more thermal paste on the chip and clean any dust out of the heatsink.

I did this and re-seated the heatsink and now when I turn on the computer th e monitor says no signal and sometimes now after about 20 seconds the computer turns itself off. The monitor saying no signal is always happening.

I have:

Q6600
Asus P5B-VM SE
ati HD2900XT
Enermax 650 noisetaker I
Win xp
2gb corsair ram
Maxtor 500gb HD

Literally all I did was take the heatsink off, clean it, add new paste and put it back on, nothing else in the computer was interfered with. Has the graphics card mysteriously decided to pack up even though it said the cpu was overheating?

I'm at a loss - I've made sure everything is in properly and taken steps to stop cpu overheating.

Thanks in advance guys.

Hello everyone,
I'm about to finally upgrade this old computer of mine (Pentium D, Gigabyte S-series motherboard) and was wondering what would be a good, solid, and reliable motherboard to accompany my new Intel i5 CPU? I'm somewhat limited on cash at the moment and after the CPU purchase I'll only have around 150~250 dollars for the motherboard and RAM. I may be able to bump it to 300 but I can't say at the moment. I've been looking through Newegg and Tigerdirect for the past few days but I honestly can't figure out what I should go for or be looking for (I'm a bit of a newbie to all this).

These are the parts I already have:
PSU: OCZ GameXStream 700watt
Graphics Card: e-GeForce 8800 GTS
HDD: Maxtor 6V300F0

I'll be switching out the GPU for a better one when I can so I'm not really interested in SLI/Crossfire. Same goes for the HDD.

Thanks!

Am I better off going with the 4 GB of the the older RAM or 2 GB of the newer DDR3?

This is a HP Media Center PC m7000. I hit the power button and it starts up but shuts down after 8 seconds. I tried a different power supply but it did the same thing. I removed the motherboard and disconnected all cables except for the P1, the power switch connector and the 12V supply to the motherboard. When the 12V was plugged in and I applied power, the CPU fan barely moves and the supply shuts down after 8 seconds. I removed the CPU from the socket and powered the MB up with the 12V applied and the CPU fan runs quickly and the unit stays up. So now I either have a bad socket for the CPU or a bad CPU. Any way to determine if I have a bad CPU chip before buying a new one?

I am using Asus P5N E-SLI motherboard from past 2 years.

Recently I am experiencing BIOS problems. The System is not booting properly. I get a long beep indicating that it failed to detect RAM. But when i shuffle the RAM for many times, it will start. Not sure the problems is with RAM slots.

Initially I was using Partriot Extreme 2X1 GB RAM (4-4-4-12). I replaced it with Transcend 2GB 800 Mhz RAM. But the problem still persists. Infact it is increasing day by day and I am not able to boot the system properly.

My Config is as follows,

Processor - Core2Duo E4500
Mother Board - Asus P5n E-SLI
RAM - Transcend 800Mhz 2GB
HDD - Seagate 1TB 7200.12 + Seagate 250 GB
Video Card - XFX 8800GT 512 MB Extreme
PSU - Cooler Master 600w Extreme

Kindly suggest.

Hi;
I have owned the system with the P5AD2-E Premium for nearly 5 years, and have used a RAID 0 configuration on the Silicon Image 3114R controller.
I also have a stand-alone SATA drive on the Intel ICH6R controller.

I am installing a new hard drive, with 32MB cache (compared to the 8MB the current drives have) as the main drive. I will partition this drive for Win XP Pro and Win 7 Ultimate, plus another partition for data and additional programs if needed.

I am not going to use RAID for the new setup, and am wondering whether I should put this drive on the Silicon Image 3114R or the Intel ICH6R controller for the best performance.
I will retain at least one other drive in the system for backup purposes. Performance of this drive is not particularly important.

Any advice?

Thanks

One of my Intel Core 2 Quad processor cores has a temperature consistently lower than the other 3 cores, WHY?

Hello. I have a question. I need to know the reason why one of my cores (Core 2) is running about 3-4 degrees below the temperatures of the other 3 cores on my Intel Core 2 Quad processor. Restarting and rebooting seems not to help, it is always the same core with the lower temperature. Is there something wrong with that particular core or something overly defective with the processor itself??? It rarely ever fluctuates and stays at 33 degrees Celsius. The other core temperatures are around 36-37 degrees at rest/idle and do frequently go up when an action is performed on the computer.

Please let me know what is going on with this consistent core 2 temperature and please provide me with a reason why this is happening. Is it something that is beginning to go with this processor? Is there anything that can be done about it to get all four (4) core temperatures in balance.

Thank you!

Hello everyone, my dell xps 1530 laptop is not working, i dont know what happens
when i shut down the laptop it updates and when i turned it on after 3 hours it shows me a blank screen. The fan is working and the disk drive is fine as well but its not booting i think there is no POST... I already try to remove the battery and use the adapter, nothing happens. i hold the power button for 30 seconds and 1 minute and no progress. I was wondering maybe my board is dead due to overheated because, i was playing games too long. I contact dell and i got no answers from them they want me to charge $49.00 for talking with them over the phone before proceeding to diagnose. Im using intel core 2 duo 2.4 mghz, 3gb ram, 256 nvidia M 5600GT..
I dont wanna buy a new one coz i spent $1600 on this laptop. Hopefully i got helped on this matter.
Thank You...
