Difference between SATA and ATA

Hi. Can someone explain the difference between SATA and ATA? I'm looking at laptops online, and the only laptops I see with 7200 RPM are SATA. All the ATA's are 5400 RPM. Thanks.

Biggest difference between the two is the types of connectors that are used to connect to the motherboard. Other then that sata is a bit faster, but nothing really different.

The differences are many, but as said above, the main difference to you and me is that S-ATA is faster.

SATA is faster, and a newer technology than P ATA. Also SATA drives run on their own channel. There is no slaving or secondary drives on a SATA channel. SATA hard drives use smaller cables. SATA is SERIAL, ATA (PATA) is Parellel.
