E-machines Audio dilemna

Good evening one and all,

I have an e-machine T6520. We bought it less than a year ago.
Operating System: Windows xp MCE
Issue Description: Thanks for the e-support.
Yesterday, my audio started sounding funny. Various playbacks (via
headphones/speakers attached to either Line-In) played out rather
scratchy and distorted). I ran the MCE online support(great resource)but
alas, the assorted diagnostics, tests, and other troubleshooting hints
did not lead me to a solution.
Do you have any suggestions/guidelines/directions that could assist me in this most confounding dilemna ?

Please get back to me SOON - Thanks, Patrick

Your brief but relevant comment is inspiring

Dear Fellow Techie,

Your mention of something like this rarely happening tin Windows makes me think it may be a driver issue. I'm gonna investigate it.

Thanks for the return mail,
Take care and God bless,

Common causes of audio problems(windows included):

-driver issue
-sound controller application (eg: Realtek, C-Media etc) settings wrong
-Sounds and Multimedia/Volume settings wrong
-program using cpu power and taxing the bit an integrated audio usualy uses..
-bad sound source
-over driving what the sound card/speakers can produce
-EQ settings/Reverb settings screwed around
-hardware problem - dirty input jack, broken/dodgy cable, loose/damaged connector, speakers damaged.... list goes on...

I'm sure you've done a couple of them already.. its just an FYI Troubleshooting guide for people running into audio problems.. see how you go..
