Install problem AIW 9700 Pro in P4P800

My new AIW 9700 Pro will not work on my P4P800 Mobo.

Problem:
- PC does "POST" boot & can enter the BIOS setup
- BUT lines "flimmers" over the screen in the BIOS setup
- can hardly read the text in the BIOS setup
- "snow", and colour lines appears (horisontal lines)
- if I allow OS (win2000) to boot, complete mess on screen

Tried:
- another new P4P800 Mobo: same problem
- lower/detune CPU setting and timing: same problem
- tried different AGP voltage setting: same problem
- disconnected all devices (HD/CD/FD ): same problem
- latest mobo BIOS 1014.005 (12-12-2003): same problem

Info:
- Mobo: Asus P4P800 (S478/800)
- 160GB Maxtor, SATA
- P4 2.6 GHz Boxed PC800, 512kB Northwood
- 102Mb DDR-DIMM PC3200 (2*512MB DDR CL2.5)
- Gfx: Power Color Radeon AWI 9700 Pro, 128Mb
- Gfx serial: PN: 109-95700-10

Mobo manual page 2-18 say that "AGP cards should end with serial xxx-xxxx-30 for optimum performance" ?

ATI 9700 Pro + ASUS P4P800 not compatible?

Any suggestions?

Whats the serial? This can be found on the card itself...

Sorry, to be more precise:

1. "PN 109-95700-10" (silk-mask on the PCB, rear side)

2. "S/N: N0312000270" (white sticker on rear side)

3. "S/N 180318 027500" (on the metal box with the TV tuner)

4. "P/N 1029570210 075800" (metal box with the TV tuner)

Thx for your attention.

Similar Problem Similar Setup

I just tried installing a 9700 AIW Pro on my P4P800 Deluxe and was also not successful - Post was fine, but Win XP crashed hard during intial load - can't even get into Safe Mode. Card is RMA back to ATI for inspection.

Sounds like you are having a different problem though and I am now VERY familiar with all the 9700 FAQs.

First, the ASUS -30 issue is a red herring. ASUS retracted the statement after ATI raised a fuss. In additon all the AIW boards were introduced after the -30 9700 Pro revisions, even if the AIW board revisions start again at -01.

Your simptoms seem to indicate not enough power to the card. Is your external power connector hooked up? Do you have a power supply rated at 300+W? See http://www.ati.com/support/infobase/4075.html
