Hello, folks
This looks like the place. I have a budget PC that was new last fall: my first new computer since 1993. Been using a donated 1998 laptop (Pentium 233MHz, 2GB, Win98) that finally got too shaky even for me.
The new gizmo is a Compaq Presario with Pentium Dual-Core E2160 @ 1.80MHz, 2GB RAM, 320 GB HDD, DVD burner, integrated graphics; Vista Home Premium. I am amazed at what you get now-days for less than $600! The display is a 19" widescreen LCD from Acer. Lately I have replaced the 250w PSU with a 550w power supply and stuck in a Sapphire ATI Radion HD2600XT video card. Relatively cheap, and it makes a discernible difference in non-demanding games (e.g. Final Drive: Nitro) and boosts the Experience Index from 3.2 to 4.8. Found this site while googling around researching the possibilities of overclocking the CPU and to see if it would be worthwhile. Lots of good info here and I'm still checking it out. I look forward to a long and profitable relationship. |
