Processor Question

Okay I saw a E6750 and E8400 dual core processor for really cheap. Like $179.99 and $204.99 respectively. However my motherboard can't run those so I had to downgrade. My motherboard can run E6700 and lower. However these are $300.00+. What the heck? I thought more advanced technology is more expensive. There's also a quad-core which I can run(thank god0 and it's only $219.99. Can somebody explain what's going on here?9And power requirements for the Q6600?

What outlet are you looking at out of curiosity? It might have something to do with the fact that there are less E6700's in circulation or something. Simple case of supply/demand...
