Hi Needsalotofhelp,
Welcome to Techspot! My name is Blind Dragon and I will be helping you with your Malware problem. During the course of our interactions please be sure to follow all instructions carefully, and ask questions if you are unsure of how to proceed at any point. Please have a read here-> Is your system infected? Read this before Cleaning or Formatting If you decide to clean your system please follow these Viruses/Spyware/Malware, preliminary removal instructions and post back in this thread with the requested logs. There should be at least 3. 1)MBAM or SAS log (for this infection I prefer MBAM) 2)Combofix log 3)Hijackthis log (Step 15) This thread is for the use of Needsalotofhelp only. Please don't post your own virus/spyware problems in this thread. Instead, open a new thread in our security and the web forum. |

I am sorry it has taken so long to respond, i have been busy, but i am grateful for your response. I am going through all these steps but i have Mcafee Security Center(out of subscription) and it has tabs such as Lockdown firewall and Restore Firewall Defualts so i assumed that counted as a firewall. I dont know if that and Windows defender counts as a fire wall and if you would like me to download one of the suggested ones.
Also, The AVG anti-rootkit link does not work and i do have Windows Vista. What do i do? |

I am still learning but have been studying malware removal through some various sites for about 8 months
Ok please re-read the preliminary instruction AVG antispyware is no longer included. SAS or MBAM have taken it's place please run one of those. As far as a firewall, if your subscription is out of date then you should consider either renewing or removing. If it were me I would remove Mcafee and install all of the free products that I will provide links too. To Remove Mcafee products 1. Click Start, Control Panel. 2. Double-click Programs and Features. 3. Select the McAfee SecurityCenter product. 4. Click Remove and follow the steps provided. 5. Download the Mcafee removal tool from http://download.mcafee.com/products/...tches/MCPR.exe 6. Click Save and save the file to your desktop 7. Make sure all McAfee windows are closed. 8. Double-click MCPR.exe to run the removal tool. (Vista users need right click and run as administrator) 9. Restart your computer after receiving the message CleanUp Successful. Please attach here: 1)MBAM or SAS log 2)Hijackthis log after following the above. Last edited by Blind Dragon; 05-14-2008 at 09:34 AM. |

I don't see abebot in your logs, nor any other malware for that matter.

Looks good to me!
I suggest you use winpatrol to control what programs run at start up, you can do this by right clicking on scotty in the system tray and select startup info... ------------------------------ Uninstall Combofix * Click START then RUN * Now type Combofix /u in the runbox * Make sure there's a space between Combofix and /u * Then hit Enter. * The above procedure will: * Delete the following: * ComboFix and its associated files and folders. * Reset the clock settings. * Hide file extensions, if required. * Hide System/Hidden files, if required. * Set a new, clean Restore Point. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Cleanup using OTMoveit2 by OldTimer Now we can clear out the rest of the programs we've been using to clean up your computer, they are not suitable for general malware removal and could cause damage if launched accidentally. Download OTMoveIt2 by OldTimer OTMoveIt2.exe and place it on your desktop. 1. Double click OTMoveIt2.exe to launch it. If using Vista Right-Click OTMoveIt and choose Run As Administrator 2. Click on the CleanUp! button. 3. OTMoveIt2 will download a list from the Internet, if your firewall or other defensive programs alerts you, allow it access. 4. Click YES at the next prompt (list downloaded, Do you want to begin cleanup process?) * When finished exit out of OTMoveIt2 --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Now that you are clean, please follow these simple steps in order to keep your computer clean and secure:
here are some additional utilities that will enhance your safety

i did all of these steps except
clear system restore points This is a good time to clear your existing system restore points and establish a new clean restore point: Go to Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > System Restore Select Create a restore point, and Ok it. Next, go to Start > Run and type in cleanmgr Select the More options tab Choose the option to clean up system restore and OK it. This will remove all restore points except the new one you just created. Because i do not see a more options tab only a clean on C: and D: drives and when i click on create a new link it takes me to a window and tells me to pick C or D drive and then click on create a new restore point and name it to create one but i assumed you did not want me to chose one so i just hit the ok button i feel helpless lol |

You want a new restore point for C:\
Uninstalling Combofix by running Combofix /u should have cleared them so you just need to set a fresh restore point. |

We didn't remove anything that should effect your connection. Did you install a firewall, if so which one. Is it particular sites or any site?
If I can't solve it start a new thread and reference this thread so that the helper can see what we did. |
