Hard drive problem

Hi, i have three hard drives, one of which is a sata and the others are IDE

my 80gb hd has my OS on it and all MY things, and i have to manually
unplug the IDE cable if i want to switch from my moms to mine.

And the 200gb sata has nothing but movies and stuff like that on it, so im
wondering if the sata is disrupting the connection between the two drives,
as i already broke 2 or 3 data pins on the HDD itself.

Your Kindfullness would be appreciated.

Thank's!

You might need to make that post a bit clearer to understand

3 Hard Drives:

Sata 200Gig -> Movies
ATA 80 Gig-> OS
ATA ?Gig ->Faulty Pins?

I think?

Having ATA and Sata together, in one machine usually will not effect anything

nah, i broke 3 of the pins myself.
my moms HDD is 40gb with her OS on it (i broke the pins on it, remember?)

soo, as follows:

SATA = 200gb, movies.
IDE #1 80gb = my OS
IDE #2 40gb = my moms OS(pins broken)

i also have 3x 500gb ext. hdd made by fantom drives

i think it has somthing to do with the pin settings for master and slave.. combined with the fact i have bad luck with getting hd's to work right...

Yes:
SATA = 200gb, movies.
IDE #0 80gb = my OS
IDE #1 40gb = my moms OS(pins broken)

So regarding the 40Gig, are you saying it does work with the pins broken?
To me. I'd say that's the No.1 reason why it wouldn't work.

In 99% of ATA HardDrives, it's a matter of putting the jumpers to CS (Cable Select) on both.

There is one more possible contributing factor. And that's the CD/DVD drives (if you have any) that are also probably hanging off IDE1

Ok new problem..... i am now unable to boot from my 40gig,
i looked in the bios and the drive is no longer there...
this morning i booted up on my HD (80gb), and then i turned the computator (my fun way of saying computer) off to hook my 40gb back up, and now it just wont see it..

i checked the cables (IDE and Power) and i swiched them, and to make sure it was my HD, i put my 80gb back on and booted up, everything A.O.K. there.

so im guessing that its just the HD and that im going to have to look into purchasing a new one................................................

i asked my dad... and it seems that im smarter then him,
he said i should try to reformat the HD with my WORKING OS, but i said that: if the computer cant "see" that the HD is connected, then it wouldent make a differance if i booted up on my working OS and then tried to reformat it.

help me?

That's right

But I'd say install the 40Gig without any other ATA device connected (including any other IDE cable (ie remove the second IDE Cable from the m/b)

Also check the HardDrive with CS and also Master (try both)

One last thing load setup defaults in CMOS (It could be disabled!)

But why would it be Disabled?

Besides it doesnt matter anymore, my mom already fancied herself to my 80gig drive....

and im making sure she doesnt mess it up(again).
